This question is specially aimed at non-American members.

I live in a small country in Europe, so my understanding of Taylor Swift's popularity might not be the most accurate.

Yes, she is breaking records and selling millions. No doubt. But please, enlight me, how big is she, truly? Do people actually talk about Taylor Swift around the world? Or is she just another pop star with hit singles playing on the radio?

Where I live, Taylor Swift was basically unknown untill "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", the first song from her that started playing on the radio. Before that, nothing. Then came 1989, and her singles started playing everyday. Still, she was never more than an American act getting some radio airplay. Her name holds no power around here. People might know the song from listening to her on the radio, but they could never tell you who Taylor Swift is.

Even now with "Look What You Made Me Do", although she's breaking records, she's still pretty small compared with other artists who have been flopping for years around here but who people still talk about and remember (for example, Lady Gaga). In fact, I still haven't heard the song on the radio. The video's VEVO record wasn't really news here (unlike Adele, who made headlines everywhere for "Hello").

Being in this forum, where all we talk about is pop, it's easy to assume that the whole world is about Taylor Swift right now. But in the real world, is she that big? Fellow European members, who is Taylor Swift in your country? Is she in Miley Cyrus-level (who was successful generated some headlines around the world, even in my small country) or in Selena Gomez-level (who generates no headlines at all but still plays on the radio everyday)? I'm not even asking if she's a Lady Gaga, because that is a whole other level of success and impact.

So, once and for all: is Taylor Swift a global phenomenon? Or is she just the most successful American artist? It's clear that she has a huge, tremendous fanbase in the USA, big enough to give her the amount of success she experiences. I read in some forums how she's the most famous pop star in the world, but is she? No shade (and I mean it, no shade), but Americans often have no idea of how big some people really are outside their borders (which is understandable, since it's such a powerful nation and pop culture was basically born there).

I hope I'm not too confusing and you understand what I'm trying to ask here. Again, no shade to fellow Americans and no shade to Taylor Swift.

All that I can say is that she's not popular in my country. :lana: She might be more popular in Western Europe though.

I've heard about her 7 years ago on the internet, and one of my classmates heard about her too and said she was pretty but I think her first top 40 hit here was I Don't Wanna Live Forever this year.

She is nowhere popularity-wise or general impact near to Gaga, Madonna, Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna or even Kesha or Adele in my country. :lolly:

She had the peak in my country during the 1989 era,and slowly starts to make a name here with Look What You Made Me Do.

In my country, for example, if you ask who Lady Gaga or Beyonce or Madonna is, everyone knows. They're global phenomenons and stars in the eye of the public.

About Taylor Swift, not everyone. I think she is mainly popular in the younger generation.

She will stay relevant i think

She'll be a Madonna sized legend, but only time will tell

Reputation will do amazing,i think :music:

Currently, it's Gaga and Beyonce who have more loyal fans around the planet :firega:

John Wayne

The most relevant in the moment but not the most famous one. I think Gaga and Madonna share that title.

Hard to tell really

It's hard to ignore her as she's constantly in your face on the radio

But a lot of people don't really care for her these days, if they are aware of all the drama

She'll still get her #1 though, knowing her overrated ***

I can't speak for it since our country (The Philippines) follow US trends, like urban is big here now and so is Taylor. She's very popular here. From Fearless up until now. I was in a class and everyone was talking about the video.

I really feel like she's basically no one in Europe :duck: just another pop star who gets her songs played on the radio everyday, but literally nothing more than that.
