It doesn't suit her. Funk maybe, but not disco. This sound is dated now, why did she think it was a good idea? It sounds so bland, I don't know how anyone considers this lead single material, not to mention, the chorus does indeed sound like Melanie Martinez's Crybaby. I mean, actually having the same word as your inspiration in your song is just inexcusable. I really wanted to believe she could be capable of more after tweeting that she had psychadelic and Jimi Hendrix inspiration for her album. Jimi being friends with Janis Joplin who wrote a song called Cry Baby was not the kind of inspiration I had in mind. Maybe it might be one of those things where the album's better than the lead single, but I'm just so unsure of Paloma these days after being so let down by her last album. This honestly is exactly the sound I was expecting after she tweeted that. I think the layering and harmonies are fantastic, it highlights her voice without being too theatrical (as several of her other singles have), and I think it's easy listening with a pretty fantastic hook. As to 'Crybaby' as inspiration, CeeLo Green and countless other artists have songs named Crybaby, and honestly I feel that hers is the most relatable and genuine. We'll just agree to disagree. That's just it, though. I don't want Paloma to be easy listening. She stood out and was amazing because she had passionate songs. I'm just not getting the whole great hook thing you are. It pretty much stayed the same throughout. And yes, while other singers have songs with the same title, its chorus really does sound like Melanie's song. And I also think that's the song I can relate to far more. Paloma just doesn't seem to have any humanity in this song and parts of it sound off-key, which is a big sore point for me. Disco is just a bland, dull genre with very few exceptions, there's no life in it, which is odd for a genre that's supposed to encourage you to dance.
