Remembering Diana on the 20th anniversary of her death

She died a few hours later on August 31, 1997, plunging Britain into grief that lingers to this day. Diana, Princess of Wales, was born on July 1, 1961. She was divorced from Britain’s Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, whom she had married on July 29, 1981. Diana’s wedding to Charles, heir to the British throne, was held at St Paul’s Cathedral and seen by a global television audience of over 750 million. While married, she bore the courtesy titles of Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Chester and Baroness of Renfrew. The divorce was finalized Aug. 28, 1996.

Diana was known for her fundraising work for international charities, and during her final year, Diana lent highly visible support to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, a campaign which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997, only a few months after her death."

I was 13 when she died & I'll never forget it.  Mostly because the news reported on it none stop(LITERALLY) for almost 2 years straight afterwards...  But she truly was a GREAT & Wonderful woman, who went through a lot!  May she R.I.P.  😔

idk.......its high profile marriage... i'm sure the always something hidden within their life (diana, charles, camilla, and the rest of the royal family) mostly the truth will never surfaces.

I was just watching the new documentary where she's talking about her life before marrying into royalty and all that happened. I didn't know most of the details (she died like 2 months before I was born).

Like I didn't even know her marriage fell apart. If you would have asked me I would have guessed she was still married to the prince at the time of her death.

Also the documentary made me read up on her death and ugh it was horrible. Her heart was displaced to the other side of her chest. Just horrible.

I was 8 when she died, for me she was a dream, a princess and she did all this good, as a little kid I wanted to meet her, I was jealous of the kids in need that met her (though I didn't understand that they are in need because I was a kid).

When she died, it was all over the news, I was very sad, it was the first time that I learned about paparazzi and since then I have a big hate and anger to them.. I watched the funeral live, I was sad and crying, I learned that even princesses can die

Oh Diana. One of the closest things we'll ever get to having an angel on this planet. She was so very sweet and so very caring to all those she met. Meeting with the victims of AIDS and touching them, for example; Madonna is the only other high-profile individual that I can think of that did such charitable work for these poor individuals during such a difficult period. It was simply a number of things that this extremely generous person did in her short lifetime. It's such a tragedy that she never got to live out her days properly. RIP Diana, you're still in our hearts.

I was 8 years old when this all happened, in second grade, and around the same age (if not the same age) as Prince William. It was all over the news, and I remember being so sad. As a child, you don't understand the politics of everything, but rather have a basic understanding when you look at a person. I looked at videos and pictures of her, and knew not only that she was a real princess but that she was a good person with a golden heart. 

I remember watching the funeral raptured. William and Harry were walking behind the coffin trying to look strong. They were around my age, and they were burying their mother. I will never forget this moment because it was then that I realized that selfless and good people can die.

But more importantly, that mothers are not immortal.

Poor woman. The most charismatic and angelic woman I ever saw. Even iust in pictures you can't help but fall for her. She was a victim of time. She was brought to the limelight at a young age.

Legendary woman and real queen of the people to us Brits. I still believe she was murdered & it was a cover-up, she even predicted her own 'accident' road crash in a private letter to her solicitor that the police withheld in secret amongst other loopholes. However, may she rest in peace, she had a beautiful heart & was the first royal to shake hands and hug an AIDS sufferer. I wish she had a longer life, she had so many charity plans to help others.
