It's breaking records right now because this is the return of Taylor and because the music video is good. But the song itself is bad. The instrumentals of the song are descent and new for her, but they feel like they need and more work. The lyrics and sound childish. Taylor seems to think that her fewds and haters need a constant spotlight. The chorus is a bit catchy but ultimately weak. All in all, I am not sure many people will be into this song after the initial hype. There will be a lot of promo and support from the radio. But will the GP care in the long run? I hate the song lyrically, but beyond that I've grown to reluctantly enjoy it. I think others will too. My consensus is that regardless of the song quality, it'll be an ear worm and grow on people. I don't see it being a 'Chained to the Rhythm' situation where it peaks high then plummets.
