musicnotbling 1,692
I feel 2013 really was the peak of the VMA's. With Gaga's performance of Applause, Miley with We Can't Stop etc. That was the last fun year of the VMA's. The last wild year, one to really remember. Now everything is just boring and auto-tuned. Lil Uzi Vert with XOXO tour life was absolute garbage, the auto-tune was terribly unbearable. Ed Sheeran performing his extremely overrated, overplayed Shape Of You? It's just boring now. It was too political ---- had too much of a SJW vibe to it. It was annoying and cringy. Nicki Minaj forgetting her verses? Like cmon now, where did the fun go? I miss the old years. It's all just going by too fast. It's just basic entertainment now. It's not glitzy or glamorous like it once was. It's just bland. ---I also have to add that everything basically sounds the same now...there's really no more variation. Have we run out of creativity? I said what I had to say. tomsches 17,401
2009 were the last good VMAs. But the VMAs between 2005 and 2008 were bad too. I mean in 2010 we got a lot of awards for Gaga, but besides Gaga what do you remember? in 2007 we got Britney's iconic Gimme More performance, but what else was there? 2009 for the first time felt like a true VMA show, but afterwards it went downhill again. The best VMAs for me were the one from the late 1990s and the early 2000s. Although my favourite VMA show was the one from 2009. I literally don't know any video that won or was nominated after 2012

I would usually include Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran onto the list but they did mediocre last night.
