I like the song, not Song of the Year or anything, but it's catchy & different imo :music:

(although some of the lyrics are low key cringey but oh well :giggle:)

Again with people's expectations from an artist!! Lady Gaga has **** too. Are you fvcking kidding me? Are you that naive to think that there are artists who are free of imperfections?? As humans that they are they are like everyone so don't bullshit me telling me that Gaga is a saint. I love Gaga but I'm sure she's not perfect. And feminists are so freaking hard on themselves expecting every woman to be a ****ing walking flag of perfection. Can you name me a single person who you think qualifies in your eyes as a perfect feminist?

its not about being a perfect feminist, its about literally doing anything selfless. she has never once commented on feminist issues, except when they pertain to herself and he "squad," she has never commented on even one atrocious thing trump has done, shes never commented on racism in the US. She embodies a passive fake feminist who only uses her platform to speak when its advantageous to her and other white women like her.

like many have said, the pre-chorus set me up for huge things, but I'm just disappointed with the chorus and the verses and break following it...

I cringed real hard at the "old Taylor's dead" bit :selena:

hopefuly for some better written and more boppish tunes to follow, in the meantime I'll just keep trying to hold my tongue while my best friends tell me T swizzle is the best lyricist of modern times :reductive: :bye:

show me to me please

I don't. I really wanted to, but I don't.

Curious about how the rest of her music will sound, though.

3 points in and ready for more

No. Way too try-hard "edgy" in my opinion. It's catchy, I'll give it that. But people here really think it's innovative and amazing? I can't. :smh:

And this song is NOT dark. If anything, it's a sugary cupcake of a pop song coated in black sprinkles. The only "dark" part is where she alludes that the old Taylor is dead. That's pretty much it.

...However, I'm looking forward to how the album and rest of the era will sound. I'm hoping there will actually be dark songs on Reputation. I'm not a TS fan whatsoever (I only listen to a handful of songs from 1989), but I'm interested in how this will play out. I'm lowkey expecting this album to be her The Fame Monster:bon:

Look I totally agree with you on that one but the reality is that NOBODY is obliged to do it. I'd definitely appreciate it if she did it too. I personally think that public figures should use their voices to shine light on subjects such racism and equality but unfortunately that's up to each individual. Music is said to be a thing that unifies but the reality is that more often than not it actually does the opposite because again everyone is expecting different things. I'm sure she has a huge conservative republican following in young girls therefore she might think is just better to remain silent on that subject in particular (politics) I think it goes beyond politics at this point (due to the current situation in the USA) but that's my opinion of her as a human. As an artist I just want to have fun with her songs. If I want to be inspired or moved philosophically or politically I wouldn't to go to her music to find a voice to represent my point of view. People expect a lot from her when all she's ever done is just entertain. She's not Lady Gaga

I really love it.  Normally her music isn't my cup of tea but I LOVE 1989.  It's so shady and petty.  Very dramatic.  Not only is it a great song imo, but it has caused a lot of commotion.  A song hasn't caused this much fuss since Famous.

Soundwise, I really felt like Taylor had something going until she got to the chorus. It's bland and doesn't grip me. For someone who is so gifted at writing choruses like Taylor is, it's actually quite a disappointment. I say that as someone who respects her work and enjoys many of her past songs (especially the 1989 album).

It's undoubtedly going to come in #1 this week though. Taylor just has so many fans, and the backstory drama behind this track will bring in a lot of attention and intrigue. This is the sort of track that if it had been written by just about any other artist, it would be immediately disregarded by the charts.

This track is really the difference between an artist like Gaga and Taylor. Gaga writes music to lift people up, not tear them down like 'Look' attempts to do. Taylor's not a lost cause by any means. It just seems like she needs a little bit of growing up to do.

This all being said...I feel like Taylor has still bangers on her album that I'll enjoy. This is just the appetizer to set the mood for the main course.
