People don't hate/dislike the song just because most of the lyrics are in Spanish. They do because they think it's generic and basic. I mean like the remix (haven't heard the original); its catchy and a bop but it's nothing special or new. And it really doesn't deserve to break Mariah Legendrey's record. Just look at the K-Pop thread on here how big and popular it is. Majority of those fans and participants are not Korean nor understand Korean but still love the music. So the language barrier is not a problem for a lot of people when it comes to music. Despacito receives criticism on here because of the song structure, not its cultural background and language. Point Blank!!! Keeping it a 10000000% real. Mariah's song with Boyz II Man has a ton of talent in it but it's actually a very boring and basic ballad (obviously lyrically and vocally speaking it's got a ton of talent in it) but her holding the record has more to do with the fame she and the Boyz had back then, than the actual longevity or comercial appealing of the song. I have tried to listen to the song and it's BORING AS FAUCK.

And I'm sure not looking for stuff relating to Despacito nor see anything about it. Just because you haven't seen doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Maybe you haven't been paying attention enough. I see the racist claim on almost every Despacito thread that is brought up recently. Plus no one's really going to defend the song when most of the people on here hate it. Sis I found the receipts of a user claiming that people are racist if they don't want Despacito to succeed I just don't wanna drag them into this Uh Red Wine... Convict... Gah Gah... And let's not forget how charts were easily manipulated back in 90s. So yeah, just because you don't like the song doesn't mean it's bad or not worthy of a record. It literally became the most viewed music video EVER in less than 8 months. It deserves all kinds of recognition. Did you read the OP? I said I enjoy the remix but that doesn't stop me from knowing it's basic and generic. People can like/enjoy basic music all while knowing it's basic. Lets not forget how easy it is to manipulate the charts nowadays as well. A song's success does not always equate to it deserving recognition. If it's a great/standout song in the first place, then yes it does. Closer and Blurred Lines were very successful songs but still horrible and not worthy of any recognition especially awards. How easy is it to manipulate the charts today? Tell me I hate both Closer and Blurred Lines but GP liked them and in the end, it's them who on one way or another choose who's gonna have success and who won't. Discounting, Remix sales (*cough *cough Despacito), streams basically counting more than actual sales, buying and manipulating streams, etc. "My people… need to let our bitchiness out. The only ones who do that are TIDAL artists and Despacito is a worldwide smash and its numbers are absolutely believable. Discounting is one way of getting boost for your chart, but is no way manipulating the chart since the sales are dying fast

Discounting is one way of getting boost for your chart, but is no way manipulating the chart since the sales are dying fast What's your proof that One Sweet Day was manipulating the charts? Since you brought up the 90s chart manipulation up in the first place. The point was charts can be easily manipulated today. And I was giving examples how it could be. I never said Despacito was buying streams. Let's be clear the record we're talking about is held in the US and the version that is dominating in the US is the remix. The original was not a hit in the US. And the power of the Despacito is going off of the fuel of the remix which adds to the combined sales of Despacito. Which goes back to my point about remixes being a handout. Just because sales are dying not mean discounting isn't a manipulation of charting. For instance if all the songs in the top 10 of iTunes are regular priced. And a song that's been stabile/stuck in the 40s for weeks; gets discounted half price for a great duration. Allowing it to build its way to the top 10, maybe top 5; all while all the other songs around it being regular priced. And it's kept discounted long even where it stabilizes in the top 10. Still with the other songs surrounding it being regular priced. Represents a tactical scheme not a boost. "My people… need to let our bitchiness out.
