Police line up and disband crowds, when the crowds are in traffic, and walking through city streets. They tend to let them march through city streets until there is some sort of destruction, or enough disruption of traffic(even then, they typically let them). I marched beside BLM in Charlotte, before the riots broke out. There was a distinct behavioral difference with the cops, after the looting and running around started to happen. As disgusting as the Neo Nazis in Charlottestowne were, they marched, with a permit across a campus. IT wasn't until they got to the statue of Robert E. Lee that fights started to break out. When I went to my first break and saw all the chaos on live tv, I called my parents. My mom answered and was all like "Oh dont worry. They have your dad, I, and the rest of the cleaning crew in a secret room doing nothing. It's okay though 'cause we are still getting paid for this." I get home and they are here. She told me that in the end, everything was very dangerous so they had security escort all of the janitor crew safely to their cars. Their intentions were to keep the janitor crew in that room until everything cooled down, then have them continue cleaning the building.
