The Federal Government approved a pipeline that it and the Province of Alberta have long wanted to add as production has pipelines at full capacity forcing much Oil Transport by Rail

The Province of British Columbia however has made it clear it does not want pipelines on its land and has refused to issue construction permits despite Federal Approval

Corporate Executives, Investors, and some in Albertas Government have suggested that Alberta and the Federal Government should implement legal economic sanctions on British Columbia on grounds that their refusal to allow the pipeline will cost the entire Canadian Economy Billions and their demands for allowing the pipeline is unreasonable

However it is unlikely Justin Trudeau would favour this given the divisive nature. Alberta would likely have to fight on its own if it went down this route by being unco-operative on new deals, or excluding BC from a new Western Canada Partnership they are building
