The song's US success has surprised me. He's only done one US promo appearance for it, and just on a late night talk show, so hardly his target market's ideal. Yes, it has Quavo on it but we've seen many times how a current rapper can't always elevate a song to a hit. I really thought Liam was the forgotten member of 1D, the one that had the samllest fanbase, the one that no one would truly miss if he left. But I seem to have judged it wrong somewhat. The song is ok but generic as hell and those lines about "I just to be in 1D, now I'm free," and "Coke and Bacardi, sipping lightly" never fail to make me cringe. The lyrics are so paint by numbers and cliche, the type of a song a veteran in this genre could whip up in 10 minutes. It's a very dated sound, which is why its runaway success has been surprising. Most urban tracks popular right now don't sound like this. But we'll see how far he gets with his follow-up tracks. Get Low certainly isn't doing well right now. He'll probably have a feature on Cheryl's next album and she might feature on his, which is going to be more cringe. Not to mention seriously embarrassing when they inevitably split. I'm really quite baffled as to why Liam chose to go with the RnB sound. It really doesn't suit him. In the video, he just has no swagger or confidence, he just doesn't have the charisma nor the street cred to carry this off. Every 1D member went down the exact route I thought they would all do except him. I thought he'd do modern rock, in the vein of what Niall's doing. But RnB? Who and what influenced this decision?

However, I don't agree with the general consensus of this forum that he's put out the worst solo material yet. I think he's the second worst. The worst would be Louis. His 2 tracks are the epitome of generic. I can barely even remember anything about his debut single as it was just your standard EDM track that we've heard over and over for the past 5 years and his new track is just your standard electro/urban crossover fare. Plus, he's still working closely with Simon Cowell, who he's apparently working on forming a nameless girl group with. He's played it safe by keeping Simon close and in his good books whereas the other ones have taken the risk of breaking free and doing their own thing, even if it's not what he'd want. If that's not being the most unadventurous, I don't know what is.

He's making R&B and Dance music because he's a fan of it and wants to make it? Y'all always gotta over complicate a simple situation :rip:
