it's astounding that the right has made it seem like antifa is even remotely near the same level of white nationalism, nazism, or the KKK.

Oh, I saw this:

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms, this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence. It has no place in America. And as I have said many times before: no matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws, we all salute the same great flag, and we are all made by the same Almighty God. We must love each other, show affection for each other, and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry, and violence.

...Racism is evil, and those who cause violence, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."

Well this isn't what they were discussing.

He said there were "very fine" people on both sides.

Not true. Tons of white people who aren't racist voice their opinion everyday.

Only people who get judged are racists and racist sumpathizers.

Really? Because I tweeted "What happened in Virginia is gross, living in California you tend to underestimate the presence of racism in America" and I got dragged in the mud by BLM with hundreds and hundreds of tweets calling me names. One tweet quoting me got up to 1,000 favorites. I asked my black friends and cousins if what I had said was wrong, and they said no. It's not and I was simply stating a truth about racism in America, in support of anti-racism. When Gaga supported anti-racist movements and attempted to be progressive, they attacked her for saying we should spread love and compassion. And you wonder why white people have to walk on egg shells right now?

Trump is a mess, but I want to know why the media and liberals are conveniently choosing to ignore what I just quoted.

Ok, first of all Twitter is a MESS :air:

Many of the people there drag people for no reason.

I'd have to see your tweets to accurately judge but based on what you said I guess they were criticizing because perhaps POC still face a lot of racism in California and it's just white people who may not see its presence as much

It was disingenuous, took him two days to actually make a professional statment.

Plus, what you posted literally means nothing when he said there were FINE PEOPLE on both sides.

Nazis and white supremacists are not fine people AT ALL :rip:

It doesn't matter what we say. We're white. We're not allowed to have opinions anymore. I mean....for crying out loud....they nearly sawed off Gaga's head the other day for offering help.

Best thing to do now is just vote how you want and let the extremists on both sides make

I assumed correctly then.

But again, Twitter is a place where you can get dragged for anything.

Your tweet wasn't insensitive but as you can see other people's experience has been different.

You shouldn't feel bad though. Other states are more racist, that is very true.

I agree that it was likely disingenuous, but is Trump not supposed to say anything at all then, because it will always come off as disingenuous?

I just researched that comment of Trump (because I had not analyzed it much before this), and I don't think Trump was wrong regarding that both sides have contributed to current racial tensions. Trump isn't one to talk, because he took advantage of this during his campaign, and made matters much much much much worse.

There is nothing worse than the KKK, neo-nazis, and white supremacists. But, I think that we should recognize that the a certain vocal sector of BLM have incited violence and stimulated further racial divide through regressive hate-based activism. Also, Antifa must be condemned at all costs, and separated from the Democratic party.

Considering my black friends and cousins saw nothing wrong with my tweet, I'd say that most POC are rational enough to decipher and appreciate well intentioned individuals. The problem is alt-left internet extremists who search for people to criticize and destroy. They are regressive and actually making it so much harder for POC, which is sad.

And also I should note, I'm not stating what I state because I want people to think I'm disadvantaged as a white person in America, or to play the victim somehow. I am quite an activist at heart myself, and am willing to sacrifice a lot of myself to make sure no one is treated unequal based off of the color of their skin. I am criticizing regressive politics because I care about that cause.

Yes, I understand and agree that racism is prevalent everywhere in the country, including California. I mean, the KKK organized a KKK rally in Anaheim last year when I worked at Disneyland. My tweet was a bit anecdotal and if I knew BLM would blow it up like that, I would have considered an audience broader than just my hometown of Chino Hills, CA (who are my Twitter followers).

Here in Southern California, though, you are shunned if you come out in support of Trump openly. I was shocked when Trump had won, because I did not know anyone who supported Trump. In California, you DO underestimate the racism existing amongst the rest of America, even if you're POC. Racism here, if outwardly expressed, will get you in an enormous amount of trouble, and people will always work to condemn it if displayed.

He only did this cause he had to, this statement from him means NOTHING!

He backtracked on this the next day anyway and stood by his embarrassing statements from Saturday and went completely off the rails blaming the "alt left" and comparing anti-racist counter-protestors to the violent neo-nazis and white supremacists who came better armed than the police were and wanting to cause violence :awkney:

Wait, didn't Drumpf mean there were good people amongst his supporters and on the right? Because, well, that's true. In his speech, he did condemn the neo-nazis and white nationalists, while also condemning the alt-left (Antifa).

And Melissa is speaking the truth here. There really isn't anything we can say right now without being judged. As a white person, if you try to aid anti-racism movements, you will get criticized by those movements themselves and the right. So right now, it's in the best interest of white people to remain silent, which is a shame.

Well, in her case she was trying to defend Trump defending racists and nazi groups lol The fact is that there is not a comparable moral equivalent to nazis and white supremacists, and Trump is trying to paint Antifa as that in order to justify his own support for a particular side. He's trying to level what is fundamentally an uneven playing field. Antifa condones and promotes acts of violence, yes, and they are militant. They do rally behind ideas that anarchic and anti-capitalist, but nowhere in their motivation is there the baseless extermination of a group of people. That's what this is about: equivalence. Just because both sides have violent players does not mean they are equally at fault or deserving of condemnation. The severity and ferocity with which one group acts needs to be taken into account here.

As for what Melissa is saying here, she's right, there is nothing a white person can say and that's fine; this is not our time to speak but our time to listen. We don't have the answers so I think it would be in our best interest to be respectful and listen to what minority groups have to say about what should be done rather than unilaterally act as if we know what their best interests should be. That in itself is mildly racist as it disregards their validity of their experience and perspective. Sometimes the most respectful thing you can do is to listen and I think this is one of those times (hence why I liked when Gaga asked on Twitter what she could do to help the black community; she knows she doesn't know and isn't going to pretend as though she does).
