I honestly think Gaga just set the bar too high for herself with her previous tours. Especially because she has to follow a tour as amazing as artrave, so naturally a more toned down tour is going to seem underwhelming. However, if somebody like Katy or Rihanna had a show like the JWT it would be seen as amazing :oprah:

honey, are you calling Joanne World Tour a toned down tour? what. Born This Way Ball and especially Monster Ball seem like a toned down tours compared to JWT.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

In terms of theatricality and 'gaga-ness', yes, the JWT is more toned down than previous tours. There is no storyline and things seem to be mismatched and randomly placed. I love this tour but I do agree that compared to other Gaga tours, it can be underwhelming. But in comparison to the other pop girls - it's amazing.

Artrave didn't have theatricality either. Whole Monster Ball theatricality was just few sentences like "When will we get to the Monster Ball?" "Are we here already?". Born This Way Ball was operation kill the b1tch. Those are seriously nothing spectacular.

I see nothing underwhelming on this tour. More like a step up from her priors.

It comes down to a matter of opinion. I personally think this tour is slightly underwhelming in comparison and it's fine that you disagree. I think the format of this tour is much more catered to the GP - hence why Gaga has thrown in a few  favourites, to keep us happy.

well, you cannot disagree that her storylines were just plain simple.

They may have been simple but they were still there and provided the shows with what felt like some structure which I think is what the JWT needs

Am I the only one who thinks the tour is underwhelming? I was in GA floor of LA's 2nd night with a great view. & I did not see any spoilers before the show!

I truly love her and have good hopes, but why do I get this unsatisfied feeling?

For example the intro was very anticlimactic as she just appeared on a box and sang 5 songs without nothing much happening when there could be epic cues and execution for theatricality. I felt like a lot of it was slapped together and rushed...There wasn't enough concept! It was just straight through singing and choreography throwing songs at us. No real use of music cues, lighting, storyline, or props.

Whereas BTWB, all the cues were on point and had a flow. I hate to compare but it feels like every year the show goes down in quality and theatricality.

I just recently watched Madonna's MDNA tour and holy sh*t.......every 3 seconds was filled with a cue from all departments, it was DETAILED, immaculate. It was conceptually choreographed. Not just dance choreo. And not a single song or performance felt like a filler because there was an idea behind each one. Whereas I totally forgot that Telephone, Poker Face, Ayo, Just Dance, and John Wayne ever happened......I don't remember them..She could've also done Angel Down more effectively instead of just standing on a bridge the entire song.

Will Gaga ever reach that caliber or is it too much work for her to do??? Too much for her to memorize and wrap her mind around?

Please let me know I'm not alone :duck:

PS here is my outfit, serving Joanne Monster realness :gaycat:

This. I hate to admit it, but Madonna does put out better shows. Gaga is better vocally by miles of course but everything else Madonna does it better. On top of what you just said, I also like how Madonna changes the songs arrangements and choreo in every concerts. Make things refreshing. I have seen Vogue French style, Asian/Thai style, Yoga style, 4-minutes mashup style etc, where else Gaga does Bad Romance the same way every single time....

This tour is toned down in the theatricality, that is 100% accurate. She has neat interludes, sure, but how do those interludes fit in with the songs or theme of the show? They don't. And that's fine.

The album itself wasn't conceptual so I didn't expect the tour to be.

And honestly, anyone claiming people are "bad fans" because they miss how theatrical she used to be, just need to stop. Lady Gaga wasn't just a chick standing there with a microphone displaying her "raw vocal talent". She was also the girl who wore a meat dress, stapled Kermit the frog to her clothes, and had a talking head chronicling the escape from an alien Castle in space. It was part of the package.

She probably wants to engage more people in this era by not being too flamboyant or over the top which makes me look forward to her next era.

she's a true artist who isn't trying to create success over and over again and instead she follows her heart to explore different dimensions.

You say that she doesn't want to be too extravagant to catch the eye of the GP then you say she does what she want without caring about success one sentence later :neyde:

THIS.

The BTW storyline was maybe ''basic'' (to me it isn't lol, as Doot said, ''a talking head chronicling the escape from an alien Castle in space'' is not what I call basic) but it made the show feel cohesive.

What disapoints me is that the JWT seems to be made for the GP. Not for us, little monsters. She sings her biggest hits, Joanne for promotion, two fan favorites to make us shut up, and those song are all thrown together in a way that people don't get bored for long segments of the show (what, you were wondering why Angel Down was right after Paparazzi ? :reductive:).

Everything looks... distant ? Like the Superbowl. Sure, it's mind-blowing visually. But it's far from authentic. She just stands there in front of a giant screen and dances on a ''greatest hits + joanne'' playlist on shuffle :selena:

Anyway, it's still better than what I expected, aka the Jo-snooze World Tour with Hey Girl being performed along with all the ballads from her career while she stands on the main stage with a mic :lolly:

But it's definitely not better than the BTWBall as you all say.

I think people need to stop comparing JWT to her previous tours. I think a bunch of the fans think that she's going to continue giving us shows similar to The Monster Ball, or artRave. Every artist evolves and Gaga is just expanding and changing. I think it's great.

It's a little toned down for Gaga but if you didn't see that coming after the Joanne era then that's kind of your fault
