REALITY 76,787
First of all, thank you for making a civilized post and not just spewing things like "Joanne sucks! Where is the pop album?!" While I respect your opinion, I'd say I disagree, to some extent. Well, before I get to my points, I'd also like to say that I appreciate that you were/are mature about this situation. You left because Gaga, at this time, isn't interesting to you, and that's absolutely fine, it's better than just spewing nothing but hate. If you aren't interested, you have every right to leave, and come back when something interests you First, I'll agree with you on the promotional side. There wasn't much, especially for Perfect Illusion, but I personally feel like she didn't want it as the first single, I think she wanted A-YO as the lead (but that's just my own speculation and a different topic for another day). But, I'd disagree with you when you say there's no message. Overall, I don't think there's a solid message, yes, but I think individually they all have unique and deeply personal messages. Gaga stated earlier in the era that Joanne was "Lady Gaga without the fame," which I think is the message of the album. Joanne is deeply personal and she shares some of the most intimate and thoughtful songs on the album, in my opinion (Joanne, Come to Mama, Sinner's Prayer, Angel Down, Diamond Heart, etc.). Also, I think we'll have to wait and see what she does in the future. People are just assuming that she's going to stick with this "Joanne, country/folk" route, and that could be true, but I don't think so. Gaga's a chameleon in the music industry and she is versatile with what she can do and at this point, we can't speculate what she's going to do. I mean, people thought for LG5 we would get a pop/disco/rock album, but that definitely wasn't the case. Perhaps the next thing she'll do is something you'll like 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰
Bjaf 1,336
Thank you for expressing your opinion kindly and calmly, rather than simply bashing, as we're so used to seeing on here... There's just one thing that I couldn't help but point out: 1 hour ago, Swine said: But she can't blame me for not wanting to follow that anymore, or any other fan that does the same. I don't think she really ever blamed people for not stanning her anymore. On the contrary, as you mentioned, I think she's somehow looking to tone it all down a notch - the whole TF/TFM/BTW ride must have been a lot. To me, Joanne is the best and most accurate representation of a toned-down Gaga. She may not be as dedicated as she used to be when it comes to outfits and public appearances, but I'm totally fine with that. The most important thing is that she still managed to deliver a fantastic album, while - seemingly, at least - respecting her own limits. It probably takes a lifetime to understand how to properly navigate fame, but in my opinion, she's nailing it. Thanks a lot for coming back and taking the time to write that though! It made me reflect on my own position as a fan, and why I stuck around for so long.

I was thinking about the whole speech she used to do back then, especially when she used to play Judas: "some of you will betray me and leave me, but the real ones will stay" or something like that. Now I'm like: "wait what, did I betray her? Can I be blamed for it?"
giskardsb 12,565
the keyword throughout your post is "expected." You expected this. You expected that. The biggest problem Gaga fans have is constantly comparing her against either her past self, or their own expectations. Its why the fanbase is often hyper-critical, and why people often can't simply enjoy what Gaga offers. With an artist like Gaga you won't like everything she does and thats ok. You are mature about it. The problem is people who have to bring others down that enjoy what she is doing because they think they have some moral high ground about what Gaga is supposed to be. A few songs in the album sound really personal, but others don't really. How is DIC autobiographic? Would you write about your masturbation sessions in your autobiography? It just doesn't fit. But I respect your opinion. It's about using masturbation as a mechanism to deal with constant stress & problems.

Like TFM was about fears, BTW was about identity, ARTPOP was about knowing her... anyone that literally thinks every song on TFM was literally about fears, or that everything on TF was about fame, believed Gaga's promotion a bit too strongly. If you look objectively the themes about life, family, and friends on Joanne are much stronger than any of the themes Gaga basically applied after the fact to previous work. aaron l 11,999
I also highly disagree with your opinions on Joanne, but hey we have our own opinions and we have to respect that. With regards to no Joanne interviews, I seriously recommend watching this one. If you love just hearing her talk words of wisdom, as I do. In the great words of Joanne "Why do we gotta tell eachother how to live?" You completely have the rights to your own opinion.

But if I was going to do an album named after my passed aunt, sing about her in one or two songs and ask people to call me Joanne, I would never mix that with masturbation, even though it might be an excuse to talk about something else. It just doesn't fit well together for me, dead people and masturbation
Yo GagaGaga 6,541
Even though you weren't a fan of Joanne, were there any tracks you thought were highlights? I get why people don't like it as much as her old albums bc there wasn't really a pop hit on it, but imo its her only album that didn't have any songs that felt like fillers

Like TFM was about fears, BTW was about identity, ARTPOP was about knowing her... It's truth that Joanne is not a conceptual-driven album because it doesn't have a certain theme explored using certain ideas, but it's more general and has its own theme. It uses daily situations and it's very real and it's easy for people to be connected with. For ex. The Fame was about fame, money and also used theft imagery in BDR video, BTW was about freedom and personal expression and also used Egg/ Vessel imagery because it was linked to Creation. ARTPOP was about putting art and pop togheter but also about pop culture (which she conceptually aimed to put The Art into), then mythology (because she herself considered to be The Art Goddes) and also media (Do What U Want). There are a lot of clever and subtile concepts and ideas in every record. But Joanne can be metaphorical too, ex. The tour explores the idea of having a real life normal identity (Joanne persona, normal fashion, the present which is linked to the past), but also a dark and weird one (Lady Gaga, her past, her public image, dark imagery at the tour, Coachella, John Wayne). This substitutes a concept.

Andrea B 16,753
I kinda gree with you expect with the album part... Joanne has a message is not about her aunt, its about Stefani, her middle name is joanne and it represents her life as daughter, sister, friend, lover, etc. Gaga dedicted only one song to her aunt and like I said joanne is about gaga and gaga is a very sexual person and that's why she put DIC in the album. Letmelivemylife 8,715
It's always sad to see part of our "family" leave but I wish you nothing but happiness . If you ever wanna come back, you'll always have a place here. That's the thing about being a little monster. Each of us has a place in this family and that place can never ever be replaced by someone else. As I always say " We are NOT a fanbase. We've been through too much together to be a fanbase. Monsters are family" ♥️ I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
