Andrea B 16,750
Also Joanne made me stan Gaga even more, Joanne is my favorite album. With her previous I couldn't relate to any of the songs, like for example; applause I can't relate to that song at all or to the Fame monster or the fame, etc. I can relate to Joanne, its the first Gaga album that has made me cry. Lyrically its one of her best projects. Joanne has a message. edit: I've been a fan of gaga for 7 years, I started stanning her when she released alejandro. But if I was going to do an album named after my passed aunt, sing about her in one or two songs and ask people to call me Joanne, I would never mix that with masturbation, even though it might be an excuse to talk about something else. It just doesn't fit well together for me, dead people and masturbation but at the end of the day it's not only her aunt name, it's her middle name I understand your opinion, but I don't think the title should restrict the ideas of the songs. The title it's just a sum-up of the general aesthetic Come to Mama it's about peace, Dancin' In Circles is about using masturbation as a mechanism to deal with stress, Just Another Day is about being positive, Angel Down has a political message - there is a diversity of themes within but all of them are summarized in this ''personal / real-life'' aspect. Doot 2
I have to agree with the vast majority of the OP. There is just really nothing to grasp onto this era, not even the music. Obviously, other people in the fanbase feel differently, and that is totally fine. Different strokes for different folks.
youandi 2,110
I think Joanne is about self reflection and healing her self and the people she cares about, not necessary 'a message' but definitely a running theme

I haven't listened to Joanne in months. I'm going to the Joanne Tour in Stockholm and I don't even know the lyrics what a Valentina moment it will be. I'm shook that u're still gonna attend the JWT

It's like a rollercoaster, you never want it to end. Gaga is a roller coaster... but fans seem to want a coaster that just goes to the top of the first hill and parks there. Tokyo Rose 1,475
From the Bud Light sponsored "Dive Bar Tour", promoting alcoholic lifestyles to her young impressionable fans, to announcing her breakup with fiance Taylor Kinney via lead single "Perfect Illusion", Joanne seems like the antithesis of the Gaga I used to want to keep up with on a daily basis. In her Malibu mansion, Gaga seems to be on the exact same page as the shallow celebrities she used to mock.
SEANGT 5,252
Yeah I mean same. I don't blame her for being more low-key and focusing on herself, in fact I'm proud of her and happy for her. But I don't really care as much about her music anymore. I'm still interested in following what she puts out and I get excited, but it's just different. I guess my expectations are low and I just have respect for her for doing what she did in the past.
LetsGetHigh 52,683
Joanne does have a story behind it. Diamond Heart starts with Gaga saying her life isn't perfect and she deals with a lot (some asshole broke me in, broke my innocence). However she deals with all the haters and lives her life (AYo), sometimes having some bumps in the road (Joanne) but still looking for love but not getting defeated if she doesn't find a man immediately (JW and DiC). Sometimes the man you found isn't THE man for you and so you go through hardships (PI, MR and Sinners' Prayer) but at the end you must remain polite and friendly to everyone around you (CtM, Hey Girl, Grigio Girls, and Angel Down). And after all, it's Just Another Day. You once were broke from your innocence, you're currently in a bad relationship, whatever it is but it's just another day that will pass and you must relax and love yourself. Addison Rae 16,583
I respect your opinion but to say Joanne has no message isn't doing it justice. Watch/listen to every interview she's done and you can clearly tell there's a message. But since you've "fell out of love with her", you probably didn't see that lol sitting on his lap sipping diet pepsi

LetsGetHigh 52,683
Saying Joanne isn't autobiographical is so false in my opinion, but I do respect yours. How can it not be personal? She talks about her rape in DH, she talks about her love and sex like (which she never does in interviews) in Sinner's Prayer (Taylor's proposal), MR and PI (break up), JW and DiC (sex life). She talks about her daily struggles and overcoming them in GG and AYO and then finishes up talking about her daily life and her stance on things in Hey Girl, CtM, and Angel Down. It's her most personal album yet for me.
