Yoü And I

one of her best songs. Vocals on point

She wrote it all by herself

The song received Acclaim from critics

Is Grammy-Nominated

And let's not forget the great music video:

Sometimes I feel she wastes so much time experimenting in random things instead of taking her time to focus and create a whole body of work that shows how good of singer-songwriter she really is

Don't drag me, but YES I think that songs like Dancin' in Circles, Jewels n' Drugs or Donatella are a waste of her time and could never showcase what she's really capable of...

Throwback:

The audience singing along, what a moment :diane:

Over.

I agree with everything except your comment about DIC :selena:

truly Yoü and I is one of the best things she has ever done in her career

Totally agree with all points here. I think it's fine she experiments, but I do enjoy her best when she is focused on being a singer-songwriter and find it produces her best work, while the experimenting and borrowing of beats produces her worst. Also, DIC is light years above the atrocities that are JND and Donatella...I didn't fully appreciate DIC until I listened to the instrumental, which is wonderfully warm and analog.

"Yoü and I" is among her best songs and is my personal favorite. It really had wide appeal amongst people I know, a lot that weren't even fans of hers until this song. It's so disrespected by people here.

If I had one wish for Gaga right now, it would be that she work with Robert "Mutt" Lange on more stuff. He's so lengendary and Yoü and I is such a teaser for the quality work they could make together.

I don't think Jewels N' Drugs and Donatella don't show her musicianship though. They are good in their own way. Donatella gave me goosebumps when it was first released.

gaga is more truly an mc than she is a performer.  she is more truly a director than an actor and more truly a producer than a musical act.

her touch comes through in all of her work from the mundane to the sublime. also, she has the talent and range and to write and perform in such a wide array of musical territories so, variety comes with the territory.

I, personally, would love to hear some more serious compositions that exit the pop arena altogether and perhaps cinema that doesn't consider release priorities as fundamental to the composite elements- you could call it experimental but that's for people who are trying push boundaries which she wouldnt need for artistic liberation. her material success has offered her a broad range of artistic options that justify themselves without some underlying ideal or cultural struggle.

She is a master-class musician but her seriousness has always been conveyed definitevely and almost exlusively through the visual elements of her 'presentation'

IOW I would love to see her seriousness as an artist and thinker conveyed musically and  would love to see visual artistry that can appeaal to our simple human aesthetic appetites.

I love her.

Something like "You and I" would have been a great lead single for Joanne if your plan was to give off a more natural and stripped down look/sound
