However, I feel like "Malibu" wasn't much better if at all. I also feel like if say Beyonce or Justin Bieber had a similar era with similar level videos they would still get nods. A great performance will still go viral. No one watches award shows anymore except maybe the Grammys, yet Rihanna's "Love on the BRain" at the Billboard Awards and Beyonce's "Freedom" at BET still went viral. Considering the VMAs are a popularity contest, it shouldn't surprise you that since Ariana had a bigger single in the tracking period (her last album had 3 hits overall, the first 2 weren't in the tracking period) and then all of Gaga's combined, she's get the nom.
