Gaga's voice is strong but not very pleasant

How about her 2013 voice here ... live and acoustic.  Sounds deep to me, but she slays the high notes.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I would say she's used the deeper, richer voice at her leisure throughout her career. The Fame showcased it the least, but it's been present in some songs at least since TFM.  It was on plenty of BTW songs, such as Marry The Night and You and I.  She just switches it up as she pleases.

She uses the sweeter, softer voice in some of Cheek to Cheek's songs, such as Nature Boy and I Wont Dance. I think she can go back and forth whenever she wants.

she used that voice since poker face even more so in 2009 when she sounded so damaged vocally that she had to sing half of the album at a lower octave, the thing that she does now with the dope vocals its on purpose after c2c and i think its the reason why people dont like her music on joanne her voice is rather unpleasant on some songs, she can do better. tbh

Are some of you new? Or never actually seen her sing live (without effects) during The Fame era? The Fame era studio voice some of you are describing was manipulated to sound a bit more radio friendly - she has referred to this before. Go back and watch her old 08-09 live performances and see just how different and un-sweet her voice sounds in them compared to the studio track. I mean, I think you could possibly make this argument with Red and Blue, but she was an actual teenager then, and her voice on Red and Blue matched the live performances of that time (unlike The Fame-era).

I also think some of you are forgetting her Million Reasons performance at the Super Bowl and The Sound of Music at the Oscars. She's never sounded more lighter and heavenly than in those performances.

I do think she's changed her style of singing at times, usually for the ballads. It's like it's being done in this style because she might be under the assumption that this type of heavy, full throttle singing is going to help the song sound more emotive, but I think it usually makes the song feel heavy handed and OTT instead of moving (as in TiHTY).

If she kept singing in high notes all the time, she could ruin it.  A reason why rock singers from the 80's like Axel can't hit high notes anymore.  He strained his voice.

A bitch factor is technique. It's much harder to strain your voice using the proper technique, something she's almost mastered.

Her voice that she used in the TF era and a bit in the TFM era was a special affect she put on; she used a sing a ton through her nose to make it sound more "pop".  I'm pretty sure the voice she's used from BTW on is much more natural to her and easier to sing with (hence why it sounds more operatic and theatrical, but also sometimes more shrill or throaty).

I disagree with this. I think Joanne is her strongest set vocally as far as her pop albums go. Some will agree, some will disagree, but I don't think she's ever been this strong vocally on an album before. She was always able to, but didn't showcase it.

fede ARTPOP

In the BTWB she was "faking" her voice...she was like being a Popstar, now shes more relaxed and "natural" , her voice in Joanne is amazing and beautiful so your point is not accurate. :classy:

I seriously think so too. I remember her speechless performance and how sweet and beautiful it was, and now she just kind of growls sometimes and her face looks uncomfortable while doing it. I'm worried sometimes. But who cares she can do what she wants..

Some may like it or not, but with time her 70s-80s rock influences have grown a lot, but she has a lot more control and power, during TF era she was too deep, during TFM era sometimes she would get very nasal, during BTW she did great but without variety, it wasnt until AP that I felt like she began to master it and do different styles

yes its strong but some songs are TOO much vocally, she forces her voice doing the "frog" sound the op is talking about, its not pleasant to the ears tbh, for example Perfect Illusion sounds so screamy and shrill (i know its intentional to convey her emotions but still)

Sometimes less is more

I actually like her voice a lot better now than back then. Her voice has certainly gotten deeper, and it may be a natural thing, as she's gotten older.

Her voice has gotten more operatic and "theatrical" in a way, but I really like that. It makes her voice perfect for the types of songs on Joanne, but for upbeat, "modern" pop songs, I don't know. With The Cure, she used more of a softer voice with some falsetto in the verses, and I think that was pretty feminine and sweet.

This :flutter:

I'm in love with her deeper voice honestly. Dope, TIHTY, Joanne's ballads, they're all so great. Maybe her voice changing is one of the reasons why I love her music more and more as time goes on.

For me, Joanne = ARTPOP > C2C = BTW > TFM > TF and I think her voice may be a big part of that. It's more expressive and natural sounding imo.

🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼
