Dude, I'm not denying that racism is a thing. You even quoted me where I said that racism exists. I was replying to someone that was saying that capitalism is best if you are rich and white. Thats why I posted the median income of asians. You are just putting words in my mouth.

But you are using that statistic incorrectly to prove your point. Just because Asian Americans have a higher median income doesn't mean that they benefit more from a capitalist society, from which generally the rich and white indeed do benefit the most. It's a skewed statistic and represents a different case for the reasons in my post.

All races can rise in the system, it's just a matter of hard work and a culture that promotes education. Some races have demographics who's cultures promote moving up higher in the system and investing in higher education. Yes, this has a very broad historical racial context, and many of those are in poverty are so because or that. However, in 2017, it is very possible to get out of that, and it only takes one generation. My upper middle class high school in California had a significant portion of every race, proof of that.

There are tons of low income financial aid programs for schooling in the US, many which minorities get the upper hand on. On top of that, universities make an effort to accept racial minorities (besides Asians) before white people through affirmative action programs. There are several types of loans you can take out to invest in higher education, and if that doesn't work you can always work your ass off getting As at a community college for 2 years for 700 a semester and get accepted into a university with a grant/scholarship program. Plus, there are 100s of scholarships you can apply to which are specifically targeted to benefit minorities. If none of that works, you can join the military and receive education and a number of benefits for free when you're done.

So yes, certain races are disadvantaged because they are more likely to have been born in lower income households. They will have to work harder than those who were privileged being born in higher income households, but it most certainly can be done.

What my post was saying is that Asian Americans actually have the greatest upper hand and thus benefit the least from affirmative action programs, especially in the most competitive universities in the country. Most Asian American immigrants were better off than the average Latino, and past white immigrants in this country which is why they have a statistically greater success. That's only thanks to the fact that for many Asian immigrants it costs a greater amount to immigrate, which in turn means that the Asian American immigrants coming into the country are disproportionately wealthier than the citizens of the country they left behind.

But I do agree that culturally the Asian race does have this hardworking mindset, hence the Asian Tigermom stereotype, which does contribute to a continuing success rate. And yes it is true that given all these programs that exist in this country, it's possible for a person of any race to rise up socioeconomically, but that doesn't mean that it's still a level playing field. Black and Latino people are disproportionately poorer and thus have to work disproportionately harder, thus making it much harder to succeed in getting those grants and scholarships. And of course "it most certainly can be done" but as with anything, it is easier said than done especially when many black and Latino youth are born with a setback because of circumstances outside of their control.

I dont see how I'm using this incorrectly to prove my point. Capitalism would effect asians born into wealth in exactly the same way as whites, and even if it didn't this wouldnt be a flaw of capitalism itself. If what you are saying is true there would have been a decrease in median income over time as the children of asian immigrants were born and grew up but we actually see the oposite.

If anything I would argue that they have an advantage because they come from a culture where rigorous studying and hard work are heavily promoted. Also I would like to see some evidence that only wealthy asians are migrating over, other than your anecdotal piece about indians because it seems to me that there aren't only wealthy hispanics that are migrating into the US. Or in the 19th and 20th centuries there weren't only rich white people from Europe that were migrating into the US, there were tons of poor people who managed to do it.

Hands up to the sky, I'm about to fly!

I love it when people like you deflect to the disproportionate success of Asian-Americans as a counter example to institutionalized racism, ignoring the fact that the relatively small Asian demographic in this country immigrated here and represent a more socioeconomically well-off demographic within the Asian race. Asian Americans in this country were generally able to afford leaving their homes and a number of them are disproportionately wealthy. I can definitely speak for the Indian community because the wave of Indian immigrants in the 80s and 90s that brought a number of the doctors and engineers in the US today were wealthy when they entered the country. The same can be said for all the young Indians entering the tech businesses in the US. Of course they're going to do better and their progeny will as well!! It's a disproportionate statistic and many people use it incorrectly and fail to see the bigger picture.

Yeah Asians actually moved by choice, they weren't force to move to be slaves like Black people.

I'm a solid liberal. I'm actually surprised cause I never like to be either on the left or on the right.
