I'm confused! Can someone clarify when Applause will appear in the iTunes singles chart?

For ages Applause/ARTPOP wasn't appearing when you searched Lady Gaga or ARTPOP or anything, you could only access it through the link. It's starting to appear now so I reckon everythings starting to sync up and hopefully it will appear in the chart.

The clever guys at Buzzjack say the rule regarding pre-orders changed a while ago, the same set up was applied to JT's album and Mirrors still went to #1, with the pre order sales counting.

They also suggest that the iTunes chart has frozen because of the rush of fans buying Applause so hopefully we will see it's position pop up soon.

Don't worry everyone!

I thought that is because you didn't have to pay for the single where as with Applause you do.

You had to pay for the single with them too. That's how it works in iTunes America, anyway.

David Bowie's rush-released "Where Are We Now" may currently sit at No. 1 on iTunes' U.K. Top Singles list and figure prominently in download sales worldwide, but it is currently set to miss out on the Official Charts Company's chart on Sunday, as it contravenes OCC rules.

"Now" does not feature in the company's current "midweek" sales data because it is linked to pre-orders of Bowie's "The Next Day" album, due in March. An OCC statement says: "Owing to chart rules which are agreed in partnership with U.K. record companies and retailers, data relating to the David Bowie single 'Where Are We Now' cannot currently be counted towards the official singles charts, as the release is linked to an album pre-order promotion and it is not possible to distinguish album sales from track sales from the retail data received.

Louis Armstrong was 66 years old when he topped the chart with What A Wonderful World/Cabaret in 1968. No other recording artist has had a solo number one at that age - though a cursory glance at iTunes' chart earlier in the week might have raised hopes that David Bowie would do so with his surprise single, Where Are We Now?, which was released on Tuesday to mark his 66th birthday.

Later, it appeared as though the single wouldn't chart at all, with OCC citing difficulties in identifying 'a la carte' sales of the track from those purchased as part of Bowie's upcoming album, The Next Day but made available immediately. Happily, the matter was resolved, and with 30,489 sales NOT logged as part of an album purchase, the track debuts at number six, becoming Bowie's first Top 10 single since Jump The Say reached number nine in 1993, and his highest charting single since Absolute Beginners reached number two in 1986.

If Bowie's record company had instead offered buyers of Where Are We Now a 99p discount on the album, and delivered the single now and the entire album at a later date, each and every sale of Where Are We Now would have been counted, and it may have charted higher than number six, though it absolutely would not have been number one.

Eek! I'm so excited to see the possibility of Gaga having a UK #1 again. She was honestly robbed with Born This Way and more-so with The Edge of Glory.

It's such an exciting time to be a Gaga fan again! I wish her every success with this album campaign.
