Damn. fsfh But yes, the genre has changed a lot. Not everything is great (Migos is TRASH), but some things are just magnificent. 🔵 - Banned because I quoted a stupid meme. Literally. So, yeah. KingRedd 3,139
Not surprising. I'm glad the constant edm era is closing. Every song sounds very similar now. Hip hop and R&B is what I grew up on in the late 90s and early 2000s. Hip Hop and Rock are genres where artists aren't afraid to say it how it is and stand up for a cause. Pop music can get very vapid and "love" heavy. May I Read You? 😎
Hades 27,980
If Migos and Lil Uzi topping the charts is an achievement...This is embarrassing compared to the glorious 90's hip hop music. Only Kendrick serves quality.

It seems as though the new generation who listens to music via streaming services do not know older artists and classics, they subscribe to a playlist and eat up whatever they are fed. I remember being a kid, my first music experience were with my parents CD's so I would listen to the classics before even hearing current stuff. Now, kid's first experience with music is managed by record label execs who pay spotify to have a song in their hit list. Radio stations do the same thing. They feed you what labels are selling. No difference. With streaming I have actually discovered so many smaller artists and have all this music available for me without a hassle.
Fernster7 7,845
Talent lost. We have two selves. One the world needs us to be, compliant, and the shadow. Ignore it and life is forever suffering.
NIghtmareElm 2,606
People who are bashing hip hop, check out these albums: Straight Outta Compton - NWA My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West All Eyez On Me - 2Pac Illmatic - Nas Life After Death - The Notorious B.I.G. To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar The Chronic - Dr. Dre There are a lot more great hip hop albums. These are just a few to ease anyone into hip hop that's not a fan. There are even a lot of great modern day hip hop albums that I would recommend after listening to these iconic classics. These are great to listen to with more narrow mind towards hip hop. GloZell Green 11,723
It's not that I'm not ok with it, but I would like to see artists who take it a step farther being the reason for the domination of the genre. Like Migos... no thanks Happy to see some acts succeed though, like Kendrick. Spoiler I'll never get over the fact that Azealia never broke through. Her attitude and mismanagement repelled her from the GP But Chi Chi slays so hard. THAT'S a song that should have millions of streams every day. RAMROD 104,579
I think it is dominant genre all over the world. Beat making machine requires very little skills to master, all you need are talent to compose awesome beats and freestyle rapping that make sense and gel to the beat seamlessly. Some of those K-Pop music for example, they are using hip hop elements and rapping, and heard all over the world. Most especially around Asia. And then grime music popular in UK, which also rooting from hip hop

If you actually go out and explore I agree, Apple music is very convinient, I am subsribed to it. I don't know how old you are but I started High School in 2008. I remember having my first job working as a butcher and going out to buy a physical album with my own money and listening to every track in order on a portable CD player. I feel like it is an experience that is lost for people discovering music through streaming. You don't get that when you start with it if that makes any sense, because you just make your own playlist of subsribe to the ones you like for most people. As for radio, I've never really listened to radio. where I'm from we got three country station, one rock and a top 40 one that is 6 months late. Maybe I'm just getting old and I don't like change idk. I just feel like kids are missing out on a lot of great music. Some of them might have You Outta Know by Alanis Morissette but few have listened to Jagged Little Pill from start to finish. Hope my analogy makes sense. Altho I gotta give credit to Beyoncé with Lemonade. I think people saw what it felt like to listen to an album completely and it contributed to it's success.
