Kesha's best songs

Some people on this site say that Kesha's a bit overrated around here. Well, I think some of her old material definitely is. I didn't think she was all that amazing initially when it was cool to hate her but I thought her debut album was good...but it turned out that it wasn't anywhere as good as I remembered it at the time when I listened to it again recently. I think it's a shame her early work was so heavily overseen by Dr Luke because you can hear the times that she clearly had agency and wanted to take things in another direction but he insisted on generic dance pop and autotune. Kesha wanted to reinvent pop music with Warrior but he didn't let her carry out her full intention and left off to rockier tunes, not even on the deluxe. I think with some re-working, she could have had better earlier work. Sure, her recent case has made a lot of people feel sorry for her and listen to her old work with a different outlook and that can have an effect on how good you think a song is. But re-listening to all her old stuff, you might be surprised at how many surprisingly good tracks she had, even with Luke at the helm. Here's a run-down of my favourites from each album, so here's a good place to start if you've never heard her albums:

Italics = some of her best ever work

Warrior

Thinking Of You

Dirty Love

Only Wanna Dance With You

Supernatural

Love Into The Light

Last Goodbye (deluxe edition track)

Gold Trans Am (deluxe edition track)

Out Alive (deluxe edition track)

Past Lives (deluxe edition track)

So, what do you think? Some of the tracks sound like Gaga's earlier work, particularly Supernatural, and some of the rap lyrics of Warrior so there was a definite bit of inspiration there. And I love her rock side like Dirty Love and Gold Trans Am. I think this is the style she was made to do. As you can see, some of her better stuff was relegated to deluxe bonus tracks which is a shame as it could have made her overall album better if they were included. I think she has some real talent and it just needs to be developed more. I hope being free of Luke will make the true Kesha (without the dollar sign) flourish. Praying definitely shows what she's made of.

I love your post, 'cause even on her "wild party chick" era, she still delivered some amazingly written tunes (Harold is EPIC) and Warrior was just proof that she could do much better than techno/dance.

Warrior is one of my favorite pop/rock albums and I wish more people could appreciate Past Lives, Love Into The Light, etc.
