I don't know if I'd say best, but Princess Die's lyrics are really clever, campy, and really... well, sad. Like, it's campy yet incredibly depressing. I mean:

Die - Dye - Di(ana)

volumes (hair bleaching) I know will love and save me from myself versus valiums (drug vices) I know will love and save me from myself

I'm so hungry from an anorexic heart / I tried to tell you how I feel, but was never very smart (playing on dumb blonde tropes, conflating it with distress on communicating suicidal tendencies)

I'm wrapped in silks made for Egyptian queens / and I'll do it in the swimming pool, so everybody sees (the equating of luxury and death)

and the most striking lyric

the final act of life / will be in my own hands to do

I'll be a Princess Die and Die with you

applause

People who don't understand the satire in Donatella and genuinely believe it's serious :toofunny:

What's wrong with Swine ? I never understood the hate for the lyrics, I find them powerful.

Worst: PARTYNAUSEOUS (tbh I can't understand 90% of it)

It's about Indonesia not wanting her to come and perform. She's sad about this situation and wants to make peace with them. I think the lyrics are really great.

On overall digestibility, I would have to say songs such as "Marry The Night" and "Princess Die" are very well-thought and conceptual but falter in their overall understanding/general appeal. Songs like "Mary Jane Holland," "Venus," "Jewels 'N' Drugs," "Heavy Metal Lover," and "Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)" (and perhaps my teenage favorite "Government Hooker") are VERY underwhelming lyrically and immature structure-wise.  Songs like "Born This Way" and "Pokerface" were hits but are also immature-lyrically.  "Bad Romance" (her arguably best-known single) and "Scheiße" are both very empowering (at least I would say) but include random inserts of foreign language (and gibberish :lolga:). "Judas" and "ARTPOP" could very well indeed be considered favorites of mine but are very bleak in their expression of the entire concept. "Born This Way" is most definitely her best album lyrically but sound-wise I much prefer "ARTPOP" and "Joanne." "Telephone" was perhaps my favorite Gaga music video pre-"Marry The Night" but the sound of "The Fame Monster" in general is perhaps her least stand-outish. "Alejandro" in particular is a very random song...same with the lyrics to "Applause" which at times seem half-ass-ish. Songs like "Just Dance," "Paparazzi" and "Love Game" established Gaga as the artist she is today but are stand-able at most capacity...I in particular prefer the second half of "The Fame" (disincluding "Money Honey," of course :trollga:).

My favorite Gaga song lyrically would have to be...

Best: Million Reasons (flawless), followed by Gypsy and Dope. (The Edge of Glory and Till It Happens To You are also very GOOD songs...just not my personal favorites.)

Honorable Mentions: Diamond Heart is another HARD hitter whose first verse hits you IMMEDIATELY and is worth a mention at minimum. Greatest/The Greatest Thing is also emotional (at least for me in particular) as it lifts my spirits and fills the voids inside of my being (I have found VERY few songs capable of doing JUST that.) ARTPOP is also a personal favorite of mine. At first the production reminded me a little of Telephone but what I really like about it is the overall concept, even if I mis-interpret it from Gaga, herself. The idea of total liberation speaks to me on a spiritual level as a self-identified non-comformist. Grigio Girls also deserves more credit in general and as a whole - very beautiful/touching.

Worst: Donatella ("just ask your gay friends their advice, before you.../get a spray tan on holiday, in Taipei" :derpga:) followed by perhaps "Dance In The Dark" :firega: (Sorry not sorry)

Sound-wise, my favorites are...

Best: G.U.Y., Applause, and A-Yo

Honorable Mention: My old favorite, Nothing On (But The Radio)

Worst: Hey Girl :laughga:

Sorry if I don't fit into the fandom norms with undying love for "Mary Jane Holland" or "Hey Girl."

P.S. "The Cure" could be considered a favorite but I can't get over the lyrics. Similar to Lana Del Rey's "Lust For Life" which came out around the same time, both has blatantly missed lyrical opportunities. In "The Cure," Gaga could have said, "If I can't find the cure, I'll fix you with my love/Know no matter what you do, I-I'll fix you with my love." (I always actually heard and sung the song this way and it still makes most comprehensive sense to date.) In "Lust For Life"'s case in particular it is much less drastic I would say but could have gone a little something like, "They say only the good die young, that just ain't right/'Cause we're having too much fun, too much to die/I've got a lust for love (I've got a lust for love), and a lust for life (and a lust for life)/It keeps me alive, it keeps me alive." (Very reminiscent or "meta" in regards to the "Lust For Life Album Trailer" monologue, etc.)

P.S.S- My favorite lyrical trope/gimmick of Gaga's comes from the songs "I Like It Rough" and "Swine." When she says connects to lines in a verse after seemingly completing the couplet- "I'm in the bedroom (bedroom), with tis-uses and when, I know you're outside banging, but I won't let you in," and "Hush up, don't speak, don't wanna hear another (not another word from you)/You're just an ani-mal, trying to act real special (but deep down you are just a shrew)."
