StrawberryBlond 14,900
I find it hilarious how they hired the same photographer who did her pregnancy shoot to do this because they used the same props! Ok, the flower wall isn't as big and she's dressed a bit differently but it's still the same idea. She looks a bit weary like: "I don't want to do this but I have an image to uphold so I guess I have to go all-out again." You can barely see the babies in this announcement that's all about them. It's about her, ever and always. It always amazes me how some people think their baby looks so dramatically different from everyone else's that they think it's necessary to take loads of pictures of them and circulate them everywhere like we're seriously going to think this is something we've never seen before. All babies basically look the same, I don't get the fuss around celebrity ones or why pictures of them go for so much money. It's like, "Wow, they look the same as every other baby! I didn't expect that!" I wonder why the twins are getting an even better treatment than Blue Ivy? She got a "rubbing belly" announcement and a normal mother/baby selfie upon birth. The twins come along and they get an entire photoshoot announcement and a similarly ridiculous birth announcement. I know I'd be annoyed if I saw my little siblings being treated so much better. The whole motherhood industry in the celebrity world is so overblown and overrated now. Instagram and filters have a lot to answer for. 13 hours ago, Bebe said: Honestly, I think it's really cool. She shares her personal moments in her own time, in a way that she can control and in a way that controls the narrative rather than having the media spin their own story (Like, is Beyonce actually faking her pregnancy and using a surrogate??) Remember we stan Gaga who used to talk about how she always wanted to be dressed like a superstar, how when she walked out the hotel she wanted her fans to feel like they where on the red carpet, how she would go bowling in heels rather than the shoes they give because she would 'rather die' than have her fans not see her in heels and full regalia. This isn't really too different. She is very personal, but when she does reveal something personal it's in her work - whether that be in a visual album where she discusses her husband's infidelity or whether that be in a professional photoshoot revealing her pregnancy or twins for the first time. She knows the paparazzi are going to snap photos of them at some point, why not control the image? Why not control the narrative? Yeah it's extra as hell, but awesome. This is the equivalent of a celebrity like Demi Moore or Jessica Simpson posing pregnant on Vanity Fair or Elle. It's the equivilent of Brad and Angelina doing a photoshoot with People for the first public photos of Shiloh or Celine Dion going to Hello magazine to print exclusive first photos of her boys Nelson and Eddy. The only difference is now it's on instagram and Beyonce has far more control over what the picture is going to look like, what picture/pictures they are going to post and what/how much she wants to say about the event. This isn't new, it's just a different medium where the artist, or celebrity, has more creative control over what they share and how they share it. Yes, it's controlling their image that concerns me. The image Beyonce wants out there is always one that is perfectly groomed and preened, no imperfections. And that goes for everything, not just her looks. I think that's a highly dangerous image to put out there. It's because of celebrities presenting themselves like this that ordinary women don't feel good enough. Images like this is why they're starving themselves thin like celebrities, overworking their post-pregnancy bodies to snap back into shape like celebrities, slathering on make-up and adding filters to give themselves flawless skin like celebrities (that was only achieved with photoshop anyway), getting surgery to give themselves perky/smooth areas of their bodies like celebrities. Even today, knowing how much a celebrity shoot is airbrushed, I still temporarily forget that they don't like this good in reality. I still think my skin will never look as good, my hair won't look as good, my features won't look as pronounced. I have confidence in my looks but still feel like there's room for improvement when I see how good celebrities look. It was so refreshing to see those un-airbrushed photos of Beyonce (and wearing make up at that) that were leaked a while back. That was when I realised that most celebrities are nowhere near as beautiful as we like to think they are. There are so many celebrities out there that I can give you no make-up receipts for to show you who the true woman underneath is and she's not the hottie men are drooling over. It may not be the nicest thing for these celebrities when it happens to them but I think it can be partly beneficial to them because it might help them to stop living in a dream world where they think they can put forward a false image of themselves and have it never be called out. I have no doubt in my mind that some of them genuinely think they look like their airbushed self all the time, they've become blind to reality. She did a perfectly normal picture when Blue was born, which was so much nicer because it looked organic and real. But she took a different route for the twins and it comes off completely differently. When you control your own image, it'll always be shrouded in perfection and narcissism. There's no reality involved. And Beyonce has taken this concept to hell and back. She approves everything, she didn't even like candid shots of her circulating from the SuperBowl because a lot of them showed her looking a bit too...human. She's too obsesses with perfection and is encouraging her consumers to be obsessed to. I don't think there's anything admirable, cool or amazing about that. Growing up surrounded by perfection isn't good for a child's emotional development. They may think it's fun at first but over time, it starts to have a serious affect on their outlooks on life. I think it's much more of a deal than people make out.

Beyonce's kids are still very young. We don't know how they'll raise their kids, and I'm not going to judge them. There have been many cases of celebrity kids living great lives. Rarely do big cases come up. But in cases of kids going off the rails, there has been a common thread of parents not doing their jobs. That and the fact that there are many people in this world, not just celebrities, that deal with going off the rails. That's the real world right there. Luckily there are great examples of celebrity kids from all corners of the entertainment industry doing extremely well. There are even kids that had to get away from their parents and start their lives over again. At some point, those people found a way.
