Gaga Monster 13,001
So what happened with the Clinton campaign and Ukraine? It wasn't so much the Clinton campaign, per se, but a Democratic operative working with the Democratic National Committee did reach out to the Ukrainian government in an attempt to get damaging information about the Trump campaign. That operative's name is Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American former Clinton White House aide who was tasked with ethnic outreach on behalf of the Democratic Party. As Vogel reported, she knew about Paul Manafort's extensive connections to the pro-Russian regime of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and decided to dig deeper into possible connections between Moscow and the Trump campaign. As part of that effort, she discussed Manafort with the high-ranking officials at the Ukrainian embassy in Washington, D.C. The Democratic National Committee denies that it was ever in contact with the Ukrainian government. OK, and how does Manafort fit into this? Manafort was Yanukovych's political adviser until he was deposed after the American-backed Euromaiden protests of 2014, and Chalupa suspected that he would eventually be brought aboard the Trump campaign. When her prediction proved correct and Manafort was named campaign chairman, she was suddenly much in demand within the DNC. Chalupa continued her research into Manafort and his ties to Russia, an issue that would dog Manafort until he resigned a few months later. And part of that research involved working with the Ukrainian embassy in Washington and officials in Kiev. Ukraine was worried about a Trump administration cozying up to Moscow, as Russia invaded and seized territory from Ukraine shortly after Yankukovych's ouster. Manafort, you probably recall, was also part of the meeting with Trump Jr. and the Russian lawyer, which reportedly didn't provide anything of value to the Trump campaign. Is it normal for campaigns to work with foreign governments like this? No. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/did-ukraine-try-to-interfere-in-the-2016-election/ Donald Trump wasn’t the only presidential candidate whose campaign was boosted by officials of a former Soviet bloc country. Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/ukraine-sabotage-trump-backfire-233446 GGD Presidential Elections

I do not like Trump and do not agree for what he stands for, but I do not think we should bring up impeachment until their is concrete evidence he committed a crime. It is damaging to democracy to impeach someone that didn't do anything impeachment worthy yet just because you disagree with him. Considering the only shred of impeachment evidence the democrats have theorized supposedly originated during election time, that's kind of ironic. Unfit or not, it's irrelevant. He's merely a means to an end. Thankfully we have a president who's willing to resurrect the free market. Democrats have absolutely no independently formed disposition, and that's saying something after the lackluster policy-less 2016 election on their part. The Democratic Party doesn't speak to or for the American people any longer, and luckily (and deservedly) they crashed in a burning heap this last election. Conservatives can be just as horrible, if not worse. Don't get me wrong. Most don't understand economics beyond the spoonfed Republican dogma, and merely regurgitate it with little comprehension. There's only so far that compartmentalization can go before the messages stop resonating with the American public. As passionate as I am about trans rights, the Middle American dude who's swamped with taxes and watching local businesses he grew up with crumble from regulations is going to be a little bit more concerned about rational economic policies, deregulation and the shrinking of the federal government than where Xir is allowed to rip open a fresh tampon. And rightfully so. Proper prioritization is key. The government can multitask, so these issues won't go ignored.

Oh, so we're going to pretend like the obstruction of justice that occurred amid the Russia investigation didn't happen. Anyway, this thread/topic of conversation cracks me up. So, because Hillary may or may not have "colluded" with a foreign country to get damaging information about Trump, this somehow acquits Trump & co. of any wrongdoing? Trump is going to be impeached and I. CANT.WAIT.

Even if there was larger pieces of evidence, it's extraordinarily difficult to prove that collusion was an intended, orchestrated action committed by the president. Not only that, but impeachment wouldn't even guarantee his leave of office. At best you could hope for a letter of resignation, but it'd be pretty shameful considering how much he desires to benefit the nation economically. I'd hate to see him sink to democrat levels of uncaring about America. I don't agree with everything he stands for. "Religious freedom" is a pandering hack of a law designed to inflate an already privileged sect of American culture's "rights" and influence. It's disturbing. I don't think he honestly cares about LGBT rights. I think Mike Pence is a shame upon the nation, personally. But you're stuck with Trump and no amount of deluded conspiracies and empty bombshell announcements from CNN is going to change that. How many more anonymous sources must we suffer through in the upcoming 8 years?
FATCAT 60,982
Have an investigation. If a crime was committed, lock up everyone involved. Though, considering it's not a member of a Campaign, it doesn't break the campaign finance laws that are going to get Don and Crew, so I'm unsure if it's even illegal. MJHolland 12,725
there is nothing illegal or unethical about a Ukrainian investigating Manafort's connections in Ukraine what an awfully misleading titled. she didn't go to Ukraine to seek damaging information. she knew Manafort prior to him ever being on Trump's team and she knew he had shady deals in the region. this is unlike Don Jr's willingness to accept "damaging information" about Hillary from a Russian. Many of your friends on here are Democrats; I imagine you know many in real life as well. I further imagine that they were the ones more likely to stick up for you and stand by you, here on GGD and in real life, when your father and others were being absolutely evil towards you as you began exploring your gender identify more openly (yes, I remember every chapter of the very long story of your transition). Would you look one of those good people in the face and tell them they are not capable of independent thought? You talk about compartmentalization; you've cast aside an enormous chunk of the American public - and many people you know and love - simply based on their party identification. How could you possibly accomplish anything with those people if you fail to acknowledge their humanity, and fail to appreciate genuine differences of opinion on the extremely complicated issues of the day? You, my friend, have changed a lot over the past few years. Perhaps you don't remember what you were like back then, but I sure do. And I hope you regain a little bit of what you've lost, because the prejudices you have now must make you absolutely miserable.

Deregulation is key to creating a proper free market. Once you allow businesses to start up by not throttling them with regulations and giving people more money through reduced taxes, you naturally increase competition and lower prices. Nobody's going to Joe's fish market if Francesca from down the block sells cheaper and better. Meanwhile Joe and Francesca are currently working jobs in unfortunately dying industries, feeding their kids cold meatballs and waffles for dinner because taxes have stifled their spending money and regulations make it ridiculously difficult to start a business. California recently proposed to require a permit for dog walking. That couldn't be less free market, and you're going to tell me Trump isn't against those types of policies?
