Where have you been sis.

There are two versions, the one previously up was the supposed radio edit. It's got a more pop structure with a rap feature, where as this one is most likely on the physical and digital record and to me is more a loosely structured rap song. Lana's verse here comes third, instead of first, the background vocals are placed in different spots, and the intro is added; with the "pre-chorus" being removed from the end of A$AP's last verse and added to the intro.

Interestingly though, the 4:14 one is what you get when you pre-order to album digitally on her website, which I assume is a mistake. It is also misspelled as "Summer Bummber", so people are calling the more pop friendly version Summer Bummber :gum:

Spoiler

There's also a 4:45 version of Groupie Love, but I figure we'll never hear it :laughga: So lets not even think about it. We're already cursed with information of a finished Architecture, Yosemite, and Roses Blooming For You :giveup:

Well she just uploaded it...? :huh:

I'm glad about this. I listened to the first version and didn't like it much. I listened to Groupie Love and loved it but I won't listen again until the album. I'm glad there's a new version of this so I have even more fresh material

I mean, the version uploaded now is what was premiered live on Beats 1 and then later played with BBC Radio, so its almost certainly the one on the record. People immediately noticed however that the version on Youtube started differently and is shorter. In reality, there are quite a few major and minor structural changes, which some people think indicate that this version was meant to be serviced to radio perhaps.

I'll break it down.

4:14 version/"Summer Bummber"

-Begins with line from the hook, followed by exposed vocal line; this is the version from the Soundhoud snippet we heard a week ago. The piano notably only goes Note, higher note, return. Instead of Note, higher note, (lower notes) as it changes chords.

-Followed by Lana's verse - "white lines and black beaches..." to "I got a feeling in my bones... wrap you up in my daisy chains"

-Hook

-A$AP's verse 1 (the whole verse is split into two) ending with the instagram snippet we heard a month or so ago, "she just might become my lover for ever.... with Lana's background vocals & "wrap you up in my daisy chains"

- Returns to the Hook, but with 2nd vocal motif in background and production slightly different.

- The exposed vocal line returns and A$AP's 2nd verse starts (the 2nd half really)

- Leads into bridge (up an octave)

- Hook, with 2nd vocal motif in the background

- Long fade out with the 2nd vocal motif

- Abrupt End.

4:21 Album Version,

- Begins with different vocal intro "It's never too late...", the production is also slightly differently, the piano has more notes per bar if you listen closely, they are also much quieter in the mix compared to her voice and continue through most of the song. Playboi carti mumbling in background is also different.

- Leads to the sort of pre-chorus... "I got a feeling in my bones... Wrap you up in my Daisy Chains" with one new musical idea and denser production.

- Same Hook

- A$AP's Verse, around "She just might become my lover for real..." Lana's background vocals do not come back, and it goes straight into the "2nd" verse from the 4:14 version.

- Transition to the Hook with 2nd vocal motif in the background

- Lana's verse with 2 extra percussion effects in background

- Transition into bridge (octave up) with echos from 2nd of A$AP's verse

- Hook again with 2nd vocal motif, production grows and is more interesting

- Fades out on 2nd vocal motif.

- Again, Abrupt end, but with percussion crash. I think vocal motif has slight echo too. Cleaner ending.

The first vocal motif that starts the 4:14 version is totally not in this version.

~~~
Personally, I think Lana's background vocals after A$AP's verse (which is split into two here on the 4:14 ver.) are a highlight of the track, so I'm sad the longer version removed that; as it made the hook return seem more organic... But I like Lana's actual verse coming after A$AP's, it feels more like a rap track, with verse-verse. But, I like the exposed vocal line at the intro of the short one as opposed to in the background of the 2nd half of A$AP's verse... BUT I prefer Lana's verse with the heavier production in the long one :ladyhaha:  I like both versions, but gravitate towards the 4:14 version vocally, but I like the slightly thicker production in the 4:21, though am upset the first little vocal melody doesn't really appear at all.
*edit*
The piano melody actually does go lower in both versions, I just wasnt listening with headphones. Still, the intros are balanced different volume wise I think.
Honestly i'm obsessed with this song even though at first I didn't feel it. Once I blasted it while driving fast it grew on me a lot :wub:
Does anyone know where I could hear the shorter version?
It's not so much that its pop friendly, but structurally, its more of a verse-pre-chorus-chorus generally
You can hear the shorter/restructured version (which I think is the original actually) if you preorder from her website. I also have it and will share it for as long as its available :emma:
