Gaga Is Too Good For Her Own Material

I feel this exact feeling when I watch:

I understand why, though. The music Gaga covers tends to be absolutely legendary stuff, stuff that she has a connection with. I imagine that these songs she covers are things she might have grown up with, or have personally been influenced by. The connection she clearly has to the music in Imagine, or in The Sound of Music, or her Bowie tribute, say, is awesome. If I never had heard the original, I'd feel like her covers were an original. This is the music she loves, and as such, she develops her own takes on it over time. I guess, basically, she doesn't simply cover the song, she thinks about it and innovates on it.  Her vocals are of a power and emotion and have awesome versatility, so she really can give her own emotions to a song, that, like Imagine, was already so full of them.

It isn't even a lie to say we stan an amazing woman. :gaycat:

I agree. She needs to branch out into rock. I think her full potential is there. Not making dance pop for radios. She's outgrown that, and she's already proven that she's better than that (by Marina and the Diamonds). I watched her cover of Burning Down The House nearly every day. I don't want LG6 I want Covers Era 2.0 lmao RIP 2015

Wow. You hit the nail on the head with this one. It is probably why I am still such a huge fan, though. I love her music to be sure, but I feel like the best is yet to come. Like she hasn't reached her true potential yet.

This. If she weren't so busy with, well, being her, I'd say she should absolutely have a secondary act that is a rock group. She just has that rock... Spark? :) Regardless of how it went technically, her energy when she performed with Metallica was so bad@ss, and Burning Down the House was such gold.

I don't really care if Gaga has a hit or not, I want Gaga to be herself and to express herself how she wants. It's alla bout the music after all

And I agree, this isn't about Gaga being commercially successful :gaycat:

If anything this thread is a huge compliment to Gaga.

I do get what you mean. I hope her new music is as danger-sounding as Bad Romance, Judas and Aura.

Btw I cackled when I read 'musical blue balls' :rip:

I agree. She needs to rebrand herself in a big way - and not as some pink hat-wearing, country singing family girl. She needs to act like a legend again, but a different kind of legend who makes music that people will remember for generations.

She is still trying to cling to radio hits and trying to keep up with the Rihannas and Katy Perrys (:derpga:) of this world, but she just isn't that kind of musician anymore. Her music really needs to start reflecting her true artistry and legendary status. Joanne kind of feels like a halfway point between her old self and the new Gaga, so hopefully she's on the right track.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I agree on this! Not many of her songs when performed really shine, like: TEOG, MTN, BR, Paparazzi, MR.

Others feel flat, fun and well done but you can only see a popstar, like: Applause, PF (unless acoustic), Telephone, PI...

Don't worry, Gaga has many years to serve talent, vocals and lyrics. But not so many to serve pop catcy songs, because she is slowly getting old (unfortunately).

I think Born This Way as an album captures her full potential but none of her other albums do. They're all great albums but we all know that she is capable of producing so much better.

I do agree on everything and believe that the best has yet to come.

But I think she did the right thing until now bc if she showed all of her vocal abilities since day one her talent wouldn't have been that interesting.

That's the reason soooo many people still say "wow, didn't know she's that talented".

That's the reason why her albums get hyped up by LMs and the GP. Nobody knows what to expect bc she does that on purpose. She's smart.

LMs are still complaining about the mv of the Joanne era but in order to make her next era seem bigger and huge she must take a step back and create simpler things first.

but I do also have to say that we need to appreciate the sick pop and electronic sounds she delivers in her tracks. This is also one reason why I love her.

I get goosebumps when I listen to Joanne, Million Reasons or Bad Romance piano version. But I do also get them when I listen to those incredible electronic beats of Aura or John Wayne.

Ultimately I wouldn't say that a vocally strong ballad is automatically better than electropop.
