China has banned Coal Imports as it plans to use only its own production as its needs decline

China has been shutting down several Coal Plants per year replacing them with solar in an effort to improve its air quality, something that has become a big political issue over last several years

Coal is the most toxic of the fossil fuels, producing up to 40% more pollution than crude oil, and nearly 100% more than Natural Gas!

Wait that ain't good for China

If China is banning coal imports it does no good for China. It will also bring inflation to China and other countries:excited2:!

This is actually more serious than we all thought it would be

Their pollution is so bad that a huge percentage of their pop has respiratory problems. Healthcare costs and lower productivity has an economic impact too

Plus China is towards the upper end of developing. For some time now their main driver of growth has been retail consumption and the service sector as wages rise and their middle class grows

for the past 4-5 years industrial manufacturing and exports have been under performing. At this stage of their development going forward, factories making things to export will not be a major source of growth hence why their economy is slowing in growth rate

For many years to come China will continue to manufacture a lot of goods to export, but its not really where most of their growth is gonna come from going forward.

Companies already there may stay for now as China still has relatively cheap labor... But for new plants and companies looking for cheap labor, theres other Countries that are more appealing than China now

Theyve never given any indication that they are doing it for global climate issues

their citizens are just demanding it plus pollution has gotten so bad there the health of many citizens plus productivity is severely compromised

The also are putting in new policies to encourage electric cars going forward

Aaaaaaaand my dream just got crushed :icega:

ah well, at least they're still taking actions which indirectly supports it. Not to mention that this would probably mean they'll conduct research on finding more efficient ways of gathering green energy; which in turn could benefit the slacking countries of our planet.

Well regardless of their motives, the result from removing Coal is the same positive result

China is almost 50% of world Coal Consumption. So they being so serious about cutting down on it will actually make a huge difference on global emmissions!
