21 has sold over 35 Million units WW and has gone Diamond (10 times Plat[Plat = 1 Million units in the US)

25 has sold over 20 Million units WW has also gone Diamond in the US.

In 2011 she had the best selling album with 21, and managed to hold that best selling spot in 2012 as well. She followed that record again with 25 in 2015 and 2016. No modern artist has been able to out-sell her, and with the release of 25 Justin Bieber and 1D were forced to push back their albums to avoid going up against her.

So why is she able to sell a lot of copies when streaming is a main force against her?

Because her albums are good

Beacuse she has a wide appeal. Young people like her/give her pass, old people can take her as opposed to EDM music and other genres, people in middle age love her. Her lyrics appeal to everyone who has ever been in love and her music is pleasant to listen to whenever, except for a party.

She appeals to an older base that are not as tech savy and still buy albums. Moms love Adele. It's that simple.

Her demographic is just different than Bieber or 1D

What's cool about her is that she's trying to live a normal life more than any other celebrity - dem lyrics are so relatable

she's a relatable artist and pleasant to listen to her, and it's extremely hard to hate on her since she's such a sweetheart!

she has international appeal worldwide too, she's very popular in continents like Asia--especially Korea

Mainstream music is usually only bought by young people, but Adele's music is appealing to grown-ups and elders as well.

Call me crazy: But she was the Anti-Lady Gaga.

Despite Gaga making it clear that she's absolutely talented, the general public saw her (and Kesha who was big at that time too) as random hags with not talent that relied on auto-tune and gimmicks for attention, and people (especially straight people) were extremely sick of it. And there comes this overweight, pretty looking girl with a big voice, no theatrics, no choreography and acoustic songs who seemed to be the antithesis of everything that was successful at the time. So she became the "underdog" everyone rooted for her to become successful, to the point of where it manifested itself into tenfold.

And once you've been in that narrative as the underdog and became "successful against all odds", they don't wanna let you go, they are hanging to your lips and wanna see you thrive and be successful for the sake of inspirational p0rn. Also, it helps that Adele has a great personality and is super likeable. A similar thing has happened to Ed Sheeran, though not to the same extent because his head did get big and he changed his musical aesthetic for maximal profit and it turned some people off.

Ballads sell well. Younger people find it fresh older poeple loves it. That's how Million Reasons performed well too. Also not having 25 on streaming when it first released helped a lot too.

It's not that her music or vocals are better or worse than others, but she has an extremely wide appeal. Her songs are melodic, relatable, and easy to digest on the first listen; she's a welcome respite from electronic or pop music; for the older demographic, she recalls artists like Dusty Springfield and Rosemary Clooney; and as a person, she comes across as funny and approachable.

exactly this. Not "relatable lyrics", not because her albums are "good". She was the anti-Lady Gaga to begin with and in 2011 everyone was fed up with Gaga being all over the world everywhere.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I would guess it's because she appeals to most demographics, both old and young people like her, typical relatable love songs, she's fat/overweight which makes normal (aka non-famous people) relate to her even more, in interviews she's very goofy & again... relatable.

That's my guess at least, personally not a fan of her music, but I do like watching her interviews cause she's genuinely funny imo.
