Pence may also need the money because lawyers are very expensive and he isn't a wealthy guy. Congress members have to call donors 4 hours a day for their party dues, re election, and daily goals. They aren't allowed to make calls to donors at government or personal offices, they have to go to a special office. So I assume the donor wanted to give money to Pence and I don't think they can do it at the White House so they have to go to a special or designated area to do it. Most politicians hate fund raising. Many would rather not spend time raising money for campaigns, etc. You either work in the system or you're out. If all the good "guys" refused to work within the system, we would be left with nothing but rats. There are many who want to do some good, but they have to do what they have to do to stay there so they can try to do good. Pence is probably raising money for his lawyer's fees.
