koji 1,404
i really can't compare. lorde is alternative gaga is mainly pop rock and somewhat techno as everybody else is saying, yes lorde is better at deeper songs, but gaga could probably do the same level of in-depth lyrics. just take a look at dope. i know it's not really similar, but i'm sure gaga can write as deep as lorde if she buckles down to it.. if you get what i'm saying. but hands down, gaga is a completely better vocalist. i appreciate both artists. I love Hair but I can see why people find it to be one of Gaga's weaker songs, lyrically. Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you
freebit 6,240
Gaga is more complex and her songs often have double, or even multiple meanings - and she does this all while adding melodic choruses that are integral for great pop music. She's actively trying to marry mainstream with the strange and obscure. She's unabashed power pop and trying to make the odd statement. Lorde is good, but her music is more straightforward and relatable, thus it's easier to claim she's a better songwriter, or that her music is "deeper" on face value. I don't think she's as quite as skilled as she's made out to be. Her ambitions are different, and her writing feels more simple. The question is if you prefer simple to ambitious, and if you personally think the former trumps the latter. This is like comparing Taylor Swift to Gaga. All are different, and I think Lorde vs. Taylor would be a better comparison because they have similar styles. A better comparison for Gaga would be Peaches, Beck, or even Brandon Flowers. SEXODUS 5,927
The question is pointless to me. Form does exist, there are certain degrees of how well words can be put together, but it's a very common mistake to assume that's the point of writing, whether it's writing songs or books or whatnot. With this mentality I would say Lorde has a better chance of being the best songwriter, but again that would be pointless and . It doesn't add anything to her music as it is and doesn't take anything from what Gaga is as a musician. What I feel like songwriting is about, but then again what writing is in general, is making a use of this instrument to talk about things. Words are not the purpose, they serve it. So the question would be: which one speaks better about the world? And that's just another matter of personal taste. With Gaga it's like looking at the world from the top of a building, while with Lorde it's like looking inside a room through a microscope. Two different dimensions entirely. So, really, I don't feel like there's a better and worse one between them. They can both be excellent songwriters.
Sister 9,907
No. If anything, Lorde is a bit lower or on par with Gaga, because Lorde is pretty much a lazy mashup of Lana Del Rey tinged with Lady Gaga, in form of a new presentation. Heard it before. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
Miguel blas 54
Lordes new album is crap pure heroine will remain better than her melodrama or whatever it’s called go buy hey violets new album from the outsides is amazing espicslly the track unholy
Thomas P 18,479
Gagas weird with songwriting. She can be inconsistent. She'll fully commit to a concept in everryyyyyy single feasible way with an album, except for the songwriting. I think gagas one of the best songwriters in modern music, but Lorde writes in a way we genuinely haven't seen. She's able to let her writing do the talking. I think she's probably the best songwriter of our generation. That's not a shot at gaga, but they have their own strengths, and lorde is simply better at songwriting than gaga. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

holy scheisse 22,252
Honestly..... Yeah. I like lordes lyrical style better tbh . Gaga is at her best when she grabs a metaphor and runs with it. Like poker face bad romance paparazzi judas dope .... Etc.
gabeoz 7,915
That's a hard one to answer as they both write two very different types of music. But I'd have to say Gaga is better. Lorde is a good songwriter to be clear, but her music is very straight-forward and relate-able. Gaga has this way of creating stories and purposeful meanings in songs that at first just seem to be about sex and self indulgence and will slowly unravel as you look deeper into the song. Gagaism 11,623
Where we are? Lorde News or LordeDaily? Or some competition? I respect Lorde's art (and really like her), I respect (and we must do the same) all of artists, so I can understand why is this question here... All artists have ur property way to show and give ur art so what is this question about? I mean, each artist has ur way to follow, ur way to think, live and write, believe, sing or whatever... an artist believe on the way that experience it, so this is such a ridiculous point to questioning, because it's something subjective tbh PS: Im sorry for my english but hope someone understand me
Irrelevant 20,281
Lorde is good at writing good lyrics. Gaga is good at writing lyrics with attitude and feelings, but the skill is about the same as Lorde. 광야로 걸어가 알아 네 home ground
