YeehawKylie 7,817
Reception. It was taboo at the time. It sold well, but it was widely dubbed ARTFLOP. I think had it not been so lashed by the public and reviewers, it would have gotten a nomination under Best Pop Collab and Best Pop Vocal Album, at least. Twitter 14
There's multiple reasons why ARTPOP was snubbed for awards.
bumblebee 2,528
Because it lacks cohesiveness. ARTPOP gave us some of Gaga's best songs, I do acknowledge that, but there were too many flaws in its composition as a record to acquire a Grammy nod. So, firstly, the sound. The record is divided. It has a retro core with probably its strongest numbers: MANiCURE, Do What U Want, Dope, Gypsy, Applause. Maybe retro is not the most suitable a word here, but there is an old school vibe about each of that song. Whitesnake guitarist records a solo for MANiCURE, R Kelly is on DWUW, Rick Rubin produces Dope, and Applause sounds as an unmistakable tribute to Eurythmics. Gypsy is also rather simplistic. And the other side of the album are the supposedly EDM tracks, songs with heavier beats and electronic influences. And the problem is that these two halves of the record don't communicate, don't complement each other. Let us not even remember that neither Aura nor Donatella are original production material. Secondly, the themes and the coherence of the issues this record addresses. It had a message which was not easy to understand for anyone except for art students and some of her biggest fans. Applause was the only big hit, but it can't even compite with Dark Horse, Roar, Wrecking Ball or We Can't Stop. DWUW barely sold more than one million, and Dope might have been top 10, but it didn't last more than 3 weeks on the Hot 100. bliaz 897
Get over it. ARTPOP is not that good. English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistakes

Dramatica 13,690
ARTPOP wasn't even promoted as it should have. Venus, ARTPOP and other songs weren't even released, instead the album was wrapped up in what's known as "an ARTPOP film". I think the music counts, but promo, MVs, and marketing count just as much. I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

RochestrMonstr 3,183
Because even though it sold more than some artist's best-selling album, the press and stigma around it was entirely negative. It was doomed. It was almost like she tried to remove the "seriousness" of BTW (Which was a more damaging era than some people like to remember. They remember the front-loaded numbers, but they don't remember the backlash and overexposure). The whole "weird Gaga" thing was only going to work for so long. She was such a gimmick back then. Even though I love her older eras, ARTPOP was proof that you can't do the same thing for too long.
SHOOKGA 2,604
ARTPOP WAS TOO GOOD FOR THE GRAMMYS THE GRAMMYS WERE TOO SHOOOK TO NOMINATE IT! Not very born this way of you 😫

Now on the other hand, if MR doesn't win atleast 1 grammys 2018, then.... How can you tell me productions like Venus,Aura, G.U.Y. & Applause , vocals like the ones on Gypsy, Dope and DWUW and the best EDM album of the year didn't deserve grammys....
