The minimum wage for full time work should damn well be a liveable one. 

Does the US have differences between full time work, part time work and casual work? I always see people argue about teenagers living at home getting a 'minimum wage' if it was introduced in the US, however in Australia teenagers, when getting a job, would be getting a casual job and around school would be working minimum hours and wouldn't have the same job security as someone working part time or full time.

A casual wage is very rarely a liveable one - no guaranteed shifts, no paid sick leave or annual leave but it gives teenagers/young people a job.

This could be me speaking without thinking, but I feel Republicans fight for what is best for them whilest Democrats generally fight for the rights of others outside their own demographic. 

 

I used to work at the Timberland store and one time we had pink shoes that were for the Susan G. Komen foundation. We were all so happy because it was for charity up until someone told us how awful that organization is and how a small fraction of money actually goes toward breast cancer.

I don't think minimum wage should be liveable at 40 hours a week, but I still think it needs to increase and be at a place that is much closer to a living wage at say closer to 50 hours a week. Increase minimum wage period, and work on minimum wage for servers, bartenders, and other food service jobs, those people go through some of the worst job stresses and the server minimum wage is about 2.35/hr.

This needs improvement, and the things she added about economy can still be considered along with changes to this.

Interesting. I had to look that up.

Even more interesting is that in 2004 statistics from Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that there were indeed more teens working than people 25 yrs of age and older. I don't know why they didn't include the 20-24 age bracket though. However, I then turned to statistics from 2015 and the amount of workers in the 25 and older bracket greatly increased in the number of workers. From this small amount of info I would assume that people are staying with their minimum wage page jobs. And that could be for multiple reasons. Another common thing I found between these two years was that most of these workers were getting paid below the minimum wage according to these reports. So that makes me wonder that people are actually getting paid in relation to the national min wage. Obviously waiters don't get paid much per hour due to tips. 

I will say that your statement is a bit off in this case. Teenagers do not make up "the vast" majority of workers. But I was surprised at how many there were.

That may have been true years ago, but not anymore.

Data from the Congressional Budget Office states that 88 percent of those who would be affected are at least 20, and half are over 30. Half isn't a vast majority. Plus, many if those who are over twenty are trying to supplement their way through college or are trying to live on their own while looking for better jobs. Not everyone is born into a middle class or wealthy family!

This is me right now

The minimum wage in Florida is about $8.10 an hour. When I started my current job, I was making $8.25 an hour. When I formally get promoted, I'll be making just over $10 an hour (I believe...don't quote me on that ) and it'll still be hard to get by on that.

I'm 22, trying to save up for school, pay bills (including medical bills now that I've lost my health insurance), and take care of my grandparents with about $1000 a month in disability from my grandpa and a poultry $50 in EBT (down from $75 a month ago). It's not like I'm poverty stricken or anything but still, this sh*t isn't easy

I'm managing ok and building a future for myself but thousands of Americans aren't as fortunate and they're stuck doing these dead end, bottom-of-the-barrel jobs for their entire lives. They deserve to be able to pick the fruit of their labor without choking on it or falling out of the tree  That's my opinion at least.
