Was Gaga going to release an album in 2012?

I was reading articles from the BTW era and many mentioned how Gaga was not going to release a 6th single from BTW in order to release a pop album in 2012? Apparently they even mention that "she promised" to release one in 2012...is that true? I thought Gaga's hip issue had already happened in 2011 so why were media reporting a new album in 2012?

ARTPOP was originally planned for the end of 2012. Her hip injury was in February 2013.

I'm pretty sure she said in 2012 on LM.com that the lead single would be out before the end of 2012 and the album in Spring 2013

Gaga submitted a complete album to Interscope in late 2012 and that was the last we ever heard of that. It's kind of assumed that interscope got very hands on with the album creation because whatever she submitted was probably too experimental. ARTPOP was then originally set for spring 2013, but then Gaga broke her hip, which postponed it further. And then Troy actually started the ARTPOP album cycle without Gaga's blessing, requiring her to come back from recovery early.

I don't think we had any concrete information regarding an album coming in 2012. We just speculated that considering she got her ARTPOP tattoo. 

If I'm wrong please provide sources.

Probably overexposure or they wanted to focus on the Born This Way Ball for a little more. They were also working on ARTPOP right around the time BTW was released, DJ White Shadow says Gaga came to the studio the week of the release and she was like "The next one is called ARTPOP, lets go" so they started working on it. Fernando Garibay and Elton also wrote songs with her at the early stage but obviously didn't make the cut.

The hip injury, surgery and recovery obviously postponed a lot of the plans they originally had because the album was set for a spring 2013 release I think but at least it wasn't that long.

As far as I remember, she submitted a version of ARTPOP in late 2012 but we never heard what happened, it was probably too experimental at that time. Some of the last tracks to be recorded for the album are Venus, Do What U Want and maybe Mary Jane Holland, Dope so I'm glad they waited a bit. Sadly we didn't get to hear the ones on Act II.

As far as I know, the lead single was supposed to be released towards the end of 2012. I remember Tara even saying we were going to "pee our pants" when we heard it, and that was summer 2012. And then everything was pointing for a spring 2013 release, basically right after the BTWB was supposed to end.

I'm pretty sure the lead was either Aura or Sex Dreams at that point.

I can vouch for Feb 2013. I had already flown to Chicago to see BTWB with my brother when she cancelled. I cried an embarrassing amount that day (not ashamed to admit it either lmao).

MESS! But honestly I could only imagine the mixed feelings of being worried for Gaga's hip and also being disappointed that you would miss what was then considered her best tour.

I respect Elton's work and I think he's a very talented artist but I honestly don't enjoy his voice on Gaga's music. They have performed Speechless and ARTPOP together and I just feel like he sounds out of place.
