But the company is still shipping about 300 of its jobs to Mexico right before Christmas. In a formal notice to the state of Indiana, the company detailed its plans to eliminate 338 jobs at the plant on July 20, four supervisor jobs in October and a final 290 jobs on Dec. 22. The job cuts are not a surprise. Even back when the company announced it would keep the furnace plant open, it disclosed plans to move some of the work there making fan coils to Mexico to take advantage of the lower labor costs. Trump claimed during a Dec. 1 visit to the plant that Carrier had agreed to keep 1,100 jobs at the plant. But the real number was 800. To get to that 1,100 number, Trump and Carrier were counting 300 engineering and administrative positions that were never expected to be moved to Mexico. Half of my state is on welfare because theres no jobs (some people like to mock my state for being "poor") What I hate about this is that they go to other countries for cheap slave labor only. Economy 52,845 Posted May 24, 2017 Share Posted May 24, 2017 I know we all like to hate on companies for doing this but everyday people are responsible too For example i go to Walmart and everything from China, Bangladesh, Mexico etc is cheap... I see a small selection of stuff made in Canada and it costs double How many people buy stuff made in their own Country to support jobs if they have a cheaper alternative from another Country? Then people dont buy it and the company cant compete We buy the cheapest stuff there is. Not many ppl will buy the same product for 50% more cost if there is a cheaper version from china or Mexico. That is on us for making those decisions!
