I agree! Even listening to just a small portion of this, she seems to be a very smart individual.

Kendrick is a male rapper though. He rapped in Bad Blood and Don't Wanna Know and The Greatest. He didn't sing in them, that's why he's not being called a pop star. Nicki Minaj features herself in 100 pop songs too but no one calls her a vocalist, because she raps in them.

But Halsey people call you a pop musician (I don't even want to use the word 'star') because you are best known for one song that is Closer.

When she puts out artsy stuff, that's not pop = she's pretentious.

When she puts out a simple pop record = she sold out.

She's right, but I think it's mostly because a lot of the alternative sounds that she started off with have crossed over to current mainstream pop culture.

But I don't see why she feels like being called "pop" is the same thing as losing credibility. Gaga has always actively labeled herself as a popstar - with the exception being 2014-2015. She doesn't fight it, she owns it and makes it something great.

Her debut album was pretty popular though and its an alternative record. Closer is just one song she featured on, her previous work was pretty notable too and did really well for a debut.
