I hate that I get slammed for this, because I feel like charts do matter to some degree as much as fans ignore them.

Charts do matter. Certain fans only ignore them or say they are irrelevant when their fave is no where to be seen on them :gaycat:

I just don't think Gaga is the type of artist to write just to make a hit, I don't doubt that she could, I doubt that she cares. I think especially right now she has had an immense amount of success and is more interested in experimenting and doing projects that are interesting to her, not what she thinks the public wants.

I do think we're not in popular currents. I mean gaga got big in time when music shifting from Hip-Hop RnB to Pop Dance. Now that Pop Dance is kinda saturated (some called this post-edm era, well you bet, everyone doing that 'tropical' vibe), the trend leaning to hip-hop / alternative rnb with the rise of weeknd/drake.

To smash not only have to fit, but also stand out and cool. and that's hard and unpredictable

It's so frustrating, I just don't understand why we can't get a #1 single that becomes a signature Gaga hit and reaches 1 billion views on vevo. I started stanning hardcore around the time Judas was released and nothing after that managed to become a smash on par with Gaga's earliest singles. Am I cursed? Should I unstan so The Cure can smash?

Pretty hard to reach 1 billion views on vevo without, you know, a MUSIC VIDEO.

The Cure has all the potential to become one, but it needs promo and a video.

I've dealt with it. I don't really care anymore.

It's so sad to see how she went from being the biggest pop star in the world whose songs topped the charts worldwide to struggling to enter the top 10 in minor music markets (most of Europe countries).

I just don't mind it now. If the song is a hit, then yay, you go girl, but if it flops... eh, move on :noparty:

I was LITERALLY about to say this :reductive:

I agree with the sentiment that charts aren't everything, but we should be able to get some top 10 hits easier than we are. It shouldn't be this much of an uphill battle.

I mean, think about it, she's already a legend. She's already comparable to Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Madonna etc. She has like another 30-40 years, imagine what that can bring!

Cher has a 190+ year career full of incredible hights and scaring lows. And Gaga isn't even in her second decade, people just need to have patience.

I think Gaga is following the Cher route. She's not trying to get smashes, but is trying to become a showbiz constant, and a well-rounded entertainer.

Exactly! And I think that's way more important than a Top10 song in 2017 that people forget in 2018. Cher had flops/moderate hits that are more often played than Diana Ross' or Madonna's endless Top10 hits. And Cher doesn't need to direct her own movie to get roles, because she can actually act. (:reductive:) Plus Cher probably sold as much as MDNA with her CTTT record without the superbowl and media attention. Without even having her lead single on the charts. And that's where I want to see Gaga in later years. Not humping J.T. and kissing Nicki Minaj to get s hit.
