Bradley 59,064
It already is doing worse than ARTPOP... like far worse, ARTPOP is a #1 selling album which sold 2.5 million copies worldwide. Applause sold 2.6 million copies in the US and is 3X platinum. Do What U Want was top 15 on Hot 100 (without a video) and is platinum in the US (does Bon Appetit seem platinum to you?) Do What U Want was #1 in over 80 countries on iTunes and we know Bon Appetit is out of top 100 in the US and is doing really bad in other countries (not a lot of them ) as well. Million Reasons was also #1 in over 60 countries upon its release I think. Also I think Venus was #1 in a lot of countries including the US.

Fiona Apple 13,006
OP: Of course it will perform worse but it's not really a fair comparison becuase back in 2013 pop music was actually popular and mainstream. (Miley,Katy,Gaga,Justin Timberlake ruled the year with pop hits). Now urban,r&b and hip hop are popular and pop is struggling

Have you listened to the Weeknd's Starboy? I mean on iTunes all tracks are labeled as R&B but common' some tracks have obvious pop/electronic/dance influences. Same can be said about Ed and Drake. And since streaming is count into the units calculation it's easier to achieve platinum with songs/albums. OT: This is the time Gaga can really change and dominate the pop scene again. I really hope she will be the one again. Otherwise TaySnake will take the spot.

Btw Starboy is not really a popsong (at least not in the way that katy-gaga-miley-britney etc. are) 2)The fact that streaming counts doesn't mean it's easier for songs to get many certifications. The singles sales have fallen INSANELY since 2013..Roar sold like 500k+ in the first week and the "floppy" Applause sold 220k. Now those sales do not exist. #1 songs usually have like 100-150k

Ed sold 240.000 downloads AND 20 Million streams with Shape of You in its opening week. In total this is like the same.

No it's not the same because Ed released the biggest song of the year and it still sold as much as the lackluster Gaga 2013 single (Applause). It's obviously that Shape Of You would have sold twice as much or even more if it was released in 2013. Btw Starboy is not a pop album either,it's r&b and has some tracks that are kinda pop-ish

Absolutely tbh. I was kinda negative about it at first but now I understand that charts are about popularity and people don't really buy music anymore so the streams are what shows the real popularity of the songs. Very detrimental to Gaga since her fans are one of the most, if not the most loyal ones in the industry, and they certainly spend every dollar to buy whatever she puts out. With this in mind, Gaga didn't actually deteriorate a lot. I mean sure G.U.Y. and Perfect Illusion underperformed but her singles would have performed much better if the rules didn't change. I do understand the rationale behind the change of rules though. It explains how Perry's singles have lots of views on YouTube but when it comes to sales, it's approximately the same as Gaga's. The thing is that having a loyal fanbase and being popular is completely different though, isn't it? The power of streaming is not a good thing for Gaga since the new generation isn't really into her so her streams are average at best and even though her sales are strong ,sales are losing importance from day to day. It's really important for her career that The Cure is doing quite well on spotify
