Smother Em Eh 7,139
Do you think ARTPOP would've been a lot more successful and popular if it was released in 2012? Wasn't that the year when EDM was really popular? And than in 2013 it started to fade? So what do you guys all think? Do you think it would've done a lot better if released on November 11,2012 rather than November 11,2013? Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!

littlepotter 75,154
I personally think so. Gaga was still in the public mind, more promo from The Fame perfume, NO KATY PERRY FIASCO, no problems with management (since before hip surgery), just so many things would have gone right. chaeri pls
Ricardo 7,913
Without a doubt, EDM was at its peak in 2012
Monstersspain 363
The year doesn't care... ARTPOP would have slayed if it hadn't problems with promo.
Probglum 824
Oh definitely! Also considering the pre-release hype for ARTPOP was dragged out for SOOOO long, it kind of burned out the era before it even officially started. My name is yours! What's Probglum? Bear 7,515
I think it would have definitely helped, EDM was more popular and the timing would have been more beneficial- but the main problem with ARTPOP though was the way her management acted, and also the image she had built up from BTW that people (wrongly) didn't seem to like. Dorothy Gale 7,575
Yeah, imagine how hard GUY would've slayed in 2012.
Guest
ARTPOP has amazingly catchy EDM inspired pop tracks, so I'd like to believe that it would have performed a little bit better commercially.
Bolkins 4,125
Idk, but I'm glad 2012ga wasn't in the public eye as much because she wasn't the best version of Gaga there's been. Not the bore worms!
Yuuri 21,636
Nope. Gaga would have been in the GP's eyes for too long and she would have been over saturated. If Cheek to Cheek and ARTPOP were swapped then I can see her performing well.
BornSimon 4,818
Of course. People were still very interested in her, she took too long to release the album, and when it came out the 'feud' with Katy overshadowed everything, Katy won and Gaga was made out to be a failure, which put a negative spin on every little thing that surrounded the era. TheGagaOfItAll 178
Breaking her hip really messed everything up honestly. Also, I'm not getting any EDM vibes on ARTPOP? or am I not an astute listener....I feel like the worst was Beyonce releasing her album just right after, having that album have such timeliness that really resonated more than ARTPOP at the time did. This, the Katy comparisons and Miley comparisons overshadowed her completely. Any stage Gaga was on, Miley was on doing something way out there. Phlop 4,773
Idk about y'all, but I still hear EDM on the radio. If she released it in 2012, we probably wouldn't have had Venus or DWUW tbh. It was Partynauseous, Azealia Collabs, and Tea that we really would've just missed. BYE
