He needs more promo for the tracks, because they are fresh and very different from what he had released. They would be more popular if there were videos..

The EDM of Calvin/David(you know like the originals who first started becoming successful in 2009/2010/2011) isn't going anywhere. They can't seem to get hits this year. 

 

They're not the in vogue Chainsmoker sounding EDM artists that are popular now. When i listen to their new songs they sound kinda dated. 

I happen to like both of them over the chainsmokers, but this is the industry i guess

 

 

 

 

That era, let's say 2008-2012, to me was was real EDM (emphasis on the D for electronic dance music).

But since 2013 music has gotten more basic, less dancey and more juvenile (lyrically and production-wise). Pretty much when EDM got hijacked my Nicki Minaj, Bieber, Selena and all those bubblegum pop artists.

"Slide" is the opportunity 

Like you said,  a video will help it

Also a performance at the BBMA

The song did climb to #11 on Pop Radio today, so there is hope for him

I miss a good dance song. I was in the second semester of my sophomore year of high school to my first semester of my junior year of college during 2008-2012 and I was so thankful to have those dance bops during that time

So was I! Even though I'm probably about 5 years older than you. I graduated from university in 2012.

I have a good feeling for this album acclaim-wise. Slide and Heatstroke were really good. I feel like now he should aim for a more Daft Punk status than compete with The Chainsmokers. After all his last two singles remind me of RAM.

I knew he'd give in eventually. He's realising that his singles aren't smashing anymore, so he needs an album to raise interest in him again. He can at least profit off streams of that. He said he wasn't going to release albums and instead just release 10 songs a year. Well, maybe after Slide and Heatstroke flopping (not to mention, Hype from last year) that there's no way the public, or even his fans, are going to download 10 individual songs of his a year. If his underperformance continues, his discography is going to read as countless flops, 10 a year, far more than he'd ever have if he just released 5 singles per album cycle every 3 years like a normal person. And I see he's all over the urban community with this one. It reminds me of when David Guetta suddenly filled his 2014 album with urban artists for the first time because he realised urban music and its artists were making a comeback and he had to be seen as cool. Calvin's doing the same thing now. He really is reductive. And wow, I know there were rumours that he'd feature Katy but I thought after their little Twitter fight years ago over him cancelling on her as a support act, they might not really see eye to eye but maybe that's all water under the bridge now. They've probably bonded over their dislike for Taylor!

This is going to be interesting to see how it does on the charts. Motion was a big flop, even for 2014. 2 and a half years later plus 2 flop singles kicking off this era and this could be a big disaster. There's no way he was joking when he sent that sarcastic tweet to Ed congratulating him on his chart success. All he cares about is having hits, lets be real.
