Moebius 8,965
I just wanted to hear your opinions on this subject; it's been quite controversial Any examples of it's experimentalism? keep in mind this is just about the album and not the performances or outfits discuss The Most Popular Girls in School megarate is cancelled! Modern Ecstacy 3,871
I think ARTPOP was quite experimental at some points. The one track that comes to mind is Aura. Its such an eccentric, bold, and strange song. Its very different. I love it
Guest
smart lyrics with great metaphors wrapped up in a very pop/ edm production
donutellha 13,819
Personally, I'm not sure if the music in itself was "anti-trendy", but it was experimental in the sense of the trends at the time (trap, crazily processed vocals, loud production). I guess in the sense of pop girls changing their music to be calmer (ex: Shake it off, roar), it stood out like a sore thumb. The lyrics were also a bit harsh on the average consumer, especially in Applause and Venus where if you werent an avid fan or art expert, references would fly over your head. Also the lack of cohesiveness. ARTPOP was driven to show range for Gaga: funk, electronic, trap, melodic. Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

GypsyBabe 22,836
ARTPOP is definitely "that" album that is very interesting, different, questionable and confusing in a lot of ways. Its an artists album that gains praise over time and slowly becomes more loved. It's like Fleetwood Mac's Tusk album. Kind of bizarre and extra, but easily their most interesting and intellectual work. In twenty years this will be considered one of her best albums. ⚯͛
Decodekid 28,229
ARTPOP is so unique, so Gaga. I might be off topic but imo is the "Gagaest" album ever Long Live Gretchen
Bear 7,515
Venus has a weird structure which makes it unique. Aura definitely has experimental elements to it. ARTPOP (the song) also stands out as something different. The rest is relatively standard.
ComeToMama 4,351
I dont think you can encompass ARTPOPs experimentalism with just the music. The entire project (album, outfits, themes, performances, videos, etc) are what make ARTPOP what it is. The whole era is a very expressive clusterfukk of music art and personality. With that being said, I think its very experimental and unique. She did so much that era that was very extravagant. Or atleast she had many extravagant ideas that should have been executed. Say what you want about the vocals or the lyrics, but the production on Dope is one of Gaga's best. The way those synths work together to accentuate her performance is amazing - and experimental in it's own way. Very simplistic and raw, yet very bold and electronic at the same time. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
