Idk if my question makes sense. I feel like pop in general is very messy right now, back in 2009-2012 the pop scene seemed really stable, we had our staple pop girls (Gaga, Kesha, Katy) and everything just seemed right in the world. What happened? It feels like everyone is in some semi serious but in actuality really petty feuds and music that's being released as of late is pretty unpleasantly weird with the exception of The Cure, Charli XCX's mixtape, and anything CupcakKe related. Idk, I'm really tired and I have a headache, I hope I'm making sense. Well discuss what you'd want to change about modern pop culture I guess. Goodnight/good day monsters.

Irrelevant

The trends are changing, the next era of "artists" are here :neyde:

It was around 2013 when lots of new artists popped out, but 2016 was the year for new artists

Its the mid 2000's all over again and no one cares about pop stars/music. By 2007/2008 radio was dominated by urban/hip-hop and then gaga came around and changed that :giggle:  so i guess we just have to  wait for the next gaga to show up and change pop music again... even though.. lets be real.. I don't see that happening unless gaga herself does it once more :reductive:

People don't care about personality or showmanship anymore. They just want to listen to random DJs blasting annoying ass noises and pretend that it's even enjoyable or listen to novelty hip hop acts so that they can post memes about it on twitter and snapchat and whatever the **** to make themselves look cool and hip and black and culturally relevant...

Streaming made music even more accessible so now everybody is trying to stay relevant with quick singles often featuring trendy DJs and/or rappers.

Lower income classes usually unable to buy songs now have massive impact in the industry just by replaying their songs and not to sound elitist nor racist, but urban/hip-hop is popular among many of those people, which then influenced the mainstream society about what is "cool".

Cookie Cutter Djs took over and popstars trying to catch as many of their features as possible.

You will never hear real authentic Djs who put work into creating tracks that aren't only great to dance to, but make you feel something, with or without vocals. You will never hear Above & Beyond, OceanLab, Lane8, Chicane on radio because they're not going the cookie cutter recycled Dj route. Radio eats up trash.

Well streaming replaced selling, and music now come first rather than artists name and popularity, also electronic and tropical house became popular since 2015 I guess.

I'm a big fan of nowdays pop music (Outside of US).

Male dominated and heteronormative. There are only two solo female singles in the top 40 on iTunes. It's a scary ****ing thing. I hate what's going on right now.

You'd think that route taken today in pop music, with less emphasis on generic basic pop songs sung by impressionable pop stars, but a more experimental and raw direction, would make pop music better, but it's turned out for the worst. There's no personality, no colour, yet artists are still trying to copy each other, and that leaves you with just a pile of blandness. It's like a reverse MTV expedition. If you have seen the state of the pop charts right before the creation of MTV you'd get what I mean.

Modern Ecstacy

It's really crap atm if you ask me (or anyone else for that matter) There are no revolutionary female artists that are doing bold and fierce things. Most artists in the game are so boring. We need the debut of a "new Gaga"
