I TRULY am sick of this "relatively new notion" that (ALL Dems) most be poor in under to communicate to & represent our base!

...And especially the fact that he is not running for anything at the moment, or in the future.

Because in all honesty, if they offered me almost half a million dollar for a speech!  I'd be on the plane right now, while typing this!  Lbvs

I'm not going to sit here & remain poor for nobody, or no ideology... Humph!  :whitney:

Poor?

Obama just received a 65 million dollar publishing deal from Penguin Random House, the largest publishing deal in Presidential history. He receives a 200,000 dollar annul pension. He charges almost half a million dollars for interviews and speeches. His net worth is expected to be over 40 million dollars. Obama is not poor. No one is asking or expecting Obama to be poor.

If you don't prosecute any Wall Street CEO's (or as Obama called them, "fat cat bankers") after the financial crisis, than start accepting six figure checks from them after your time in office, it creates a troubling optic.

It makes sense that Sanders and Warren who are trying to make the claim that their Party fights income inequality and Wall Street greed better than the Republican Party would publicly condemn Obama's decision to join the Clinton's on the Wall Street speaking circuit.

If inflating your income takes a front seat to your ideology, or you think it's perfectly reasonable to profit off of the privilege of public service (something you and Trump have in common) it's probably best for our country that you don't run for office.

Bernie IS one of the main reasons we have Donald Trump in the white house. That's simple. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial. And as for "coming together"?? THAT'S hilarious! We WERE together and we WERE unified before Bernie Slanders came along and caused a rift in the party.

Oh, and why is that?

Most Bernie supporters voted for Hillary.

Trump won because they weren't feeling her and the things I mentioned in my other post.

We will lose in the future if the Dems. fail to see their flaws.

Bernie and Elizabeth are right.

It is troubling that President Obama is out there giving these speeches to Wall Street for massive amounts of money. It's going to bite him (and Dems) in the future when Pres. Obama campaigns for the Democratic nominee (you know he will).

He needs to drop this bs.

Bernie isn't really the one to say what is good for "our party". These purity tests are stupid and a waste of time and energy! We have a nutcase with dementia in the oval, a white supremacist as his right hand man, a xenophobe as the attorney general and a climate denier as EPA Chief. The President's cabinet is full of corruption and Russian connections. The usual rules and guidelines surrounding nepotism have been thrown out the window.

We have FAR BIGGER problems to be worrying about than attacking a highly respected former Democratic President, who is simply doing what every other President has done before him.

Just a side note...this won't help Bernie with that much needed minority vote if he is aiming for 2020...which I highly suspect this is what all this is about. Something as simple as this could be shooting himself in the foot again.

The only reason he talked about it was he asked about it. Bernie didn't even really trash Obama. He said he was his friend and represented America well. He just said he'd have preferred he didn't take the money.

I agree tho that ne needs to start kissing some minority ass if he wants to run again. I want some top notch pandering next time.

We will lose in the future at all levels if Democrats continue to stay home because they aren't "in love" with a particular candidate and aren't involved with their local and state elections. Oh...and if states are allowed to continue to gerrymander and restrict voters.

Some of you seem to want Democrats/Liberals to be sheep like Republicans.

"Vote blue no matter who"

NO.

Vote blue for whoever is representing us best and isn't in bed with corporations. Someone who wants progress to actually occur in this country.

I refuse to blindly support whoever the DNC thinks is fit and we just have to swallow what they're serving. I like the fact that we actually disagree and exchange ideas despite having the same liberal ideology.

With that being said, we need to get out and vote to get candidates across all parts of the country to actually represent us.

Have you read the comments? Conservatives are already confirming their belief that Obama was just in it for the money :smh:

Obama isn't running for office. He's doing what every President in modern history has done before him.

Bernie, with his four houses, minimal tax rate and charitable giving isn't exactly poor either. None of these guys are poor. He's the top two per cent yelling about the one per cent.

But he has a point.

This will hurt Obama's credibility when he campaigns in the future for Dems.

He doesn't NEED to be giving these speeches- he's making enough already!

I don't think it will, not with his main base. The Bernie stans, probably, but their purity test are pretty much set to blind Bernie Stan level anyhow. Obama can and will do much for the party and the country in the future.

Oh, I don't know, misogyny, for one? Bernie bros, at their core, are still men who felt that their power was being threatened if they were to support a woman for the highest office in the nation. Sure, MOST Bernie bros ended up voting for Hillary, but not before they went into the mud, dragging her for the most inane, useless, baseless claims they could come up with. I mean, really, EMAILS? SPEECHES? Puh-lease.

Before Bernie Slanders came along, we were unified, and we had a vision. The vehicle to deliver that vision was Hillary. She obliterated Slanders from the start, but at the peak of his desperation, he went nuclear and caused a rift in the party that lead all the way to the general election.

The moral of the story is that words have consequences. When Bernie says one desperate, terrible thing during the primary, yet says another during the general election, people doubt his sincerity, and that's a double hit on Hillary. His existence is parasitic. He'll rely on exploitation of others for his own selfish gain.

Good idea. He should stay an Independent and run as one from here on out.

No, not an independent. A new party. Progressives actually working with like minded people with a vision, not corporate stooges who rely on identity politics.

You clearly misunderstood my post if you thought I cared that Bernie wasn't poor, I said quite the opposite. I don't care if Bernie and Obama are wealthy. I care about how they build that wealth.

Obama is a celebrated orator. It's natural and even wonderful for him to be able to make an income off of that gift. It's the groups he shares that gift with, and the six figure payments he receives from those groups, that are the problem.

Bernie bros were people who supported a different canditate then the DNC wanted to coronate. That's all. It's a primary, not a coronation.
