blackcoffee 1,264
I wanted to write about this right before Coachella because I was completely convinced that she was going to perform and then make DIC a single at Coachella (even though I was more an A-YO 3rd single person). Anyways, when Joanne came out, DIC was near the bottom of songs off the album for me...not that it was bad, but in a an album full of 9-10/10s, it was more a 7/10 for me. Fast forward to the week before Coachella and with me thinking it would be he next single, I started to really dig into the song, listening to the album version and instrumental. Suddenly, I got really hooked. DIC, while having similar sounds to current radio trends, is completely different with this totally unique, very "Gaga" take on those trends. Most people wrote it off as basic tropical-pop here, but it's WAY more. It's really a unique blend of dancehall, Latin, and Middle Eastern vibes. It's like Ace of Bass meets early No Doubt, but with this kinda Beck kookiness to it, with its use of sitar and other unique instruments. To me that while formula is just very Gaga...taking the trend and making it her own. Really different than anything else on the radio right now. Coachella happened, DIC is out, and The Cure is in. That's made me appreciate DIC even more now. The Cure, besides some little things, it's exactly like everything else on the radio. That's good for Gaga and all the people who love that, but it's just not my cup of tea. DIC, with its real instrumentation and analog recording, has a real warmth and depth to it that The Cure, and most every other song on pop radio, is missing because it's all made on a computer...drums, synths, etc... I just appreciate DIC so much more now, so thanks Gaga for taking the trend and making it so unique with it. Enjoy!
Illuminati 15,917
I think Joanne is gonna remain relatively timeless due to the instrumentation you mentioned. I truly wish she gave Dancin In Circles a try but I guess it doesn't have to be a single or a hit for me to enjoy it.

GagaUnderYou 4,978
It crazy how much of the instrumental you miss when her vocals are layered on top. I feel like I've experienced the entire song when I hear the instrumental.

babethecure 242
The instrumental has given me an increasingly odd obsession with it too. It's very rough, almost like Sexxx Dreams.
juju 18,907
DIC started out as one of my absolute favorites; now, I still love it and spin that record every now and again, but it isn't my favorite. This community tried to run it into the ground for me, but luckily others' opinions rarely influence what I enjoy and what I don't. It's just that there are other songs that have stuck to me like super glue, primarily Hey Girl and Perfect Illusion Also, I never got the trop-pop sound from DIC? Do people really hear that or are they reaching? To me, it sounds absolutely nothing like that genre. ❤ x ❤
FFXIV WhiteMage 5,906
Its tropical elements sounds a bit outdated to me but that's me... I personally prefer John Wayne and AYO over DIC
