Trump seems a bit hypocritical on this issue He doesnt seem to understand trade in general (maybe because his businesses never dealt much with it) First of all many imports may have hidden exports with them (say you export parts that another Country uses to make a finished product to you). Auto manufacturing is one example of that lowering imports may reduce some exports with it as a result Secondly, if the other Country retaliates and trade in general slows, your gonna get a slow down in productivity and cost inflation Trade now allows different Countries to have big Companies manufacture different things in big bulk. By producing in big bulk different countries produce different things at low prices If you reduce trade and force Countries to produce more things at home, you need more smaller companies to produce more variety than fewer large ones producing fewer things but in bigger mass Producing more things on a smaller scale is less efficient and in time may cause higher prices for everyone History has proven that periods of trade growth have resulted in better productivity and economic growth than periods of protectionism TRUMP DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING!!!!!!
