First DREAMer deported under Trump

Federal agents ignored President Trump's pledge to protect from deportation undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children by sending a young man back to his native Mexico, the first such documented case, a USA TODAY examination of the new administration's immigration policies shows.

After spending an evening with his girlfriend in Calexico, Calif., on Feb. 17, Juan Manuel Montes, 23, who has lived in the U.S. since age 9, grabbed a bite and was waiting for a ride when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer approached and started asking questions.

Montes was twice granted deportation protections under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program created by President Barack Obama and left intact by President Trump.

Montes had left his wallet in a friend's car, so he couldn't produce his ID or proof of his DACA status and was told by agents he couldn't retrieve them. Within three hours, he was back in Mexico, becoming the first undocumented immigrant with active DACA status deported by the Trump administration's stepped-up deportation policy.

How do you know he was pro-Trump, exactly? And why even then should he face deportation?

Disgusting. I seriously feel like the end of the world is coming. So many horrible things happening and unfortunately its not getting better.

I'm following this case.

This case was extremely mishandled by the ICE agents. They apprehended him and 3 hours later he's in Mexico? :/ They took advantage of a man with a cognitive disability and didn't give him access to a lawyer.

However, Mr. Montes made his case worse by attempting to re-enter the US. And signed off some Immigration related papers- this can make or break his case.

He doesn't exactly have a "clean" record either, and ICE agents can use that against him in court if it comes to that.

It's a complicated case and I doubt there are significant numbers in his exact same spot. DACA recipients have been apprehended before, but most were eventually set free as they had clean records. It will be very interesting to see what comes out of this case, but I expect he'll lose.

Sad to see racist posts on a site that is dedicated to someone who works her ass off to make sure everybody is being treated nicely and equally.

Where in Mexico? Do they just drop u off at the border?

Yes, it's not like they give you a ticket to your house with meals included, no, they drop you in the nearest border. Mexico have a office in every border for deported people and they may help you contact your family

This is so frightening, I have lawful status under DACA and have lived here all my life, if I were to be deported I wouldn't know how to live in my home country...
