In advance of her summer tour, Lady Gaga debuted a new song, “The Cure,” at Coachella Saturday night and it sounds like it could be her pathway back onto pop radio.

The superstar, who filled in for a pregnant Beyonce last night and will do so again next Saturday, is drawing rave reviews for her 18-song performance that drew heavily from her strong catalog, including such hits as “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.” Though her latest album, Joanne, came out barely six months ago, it didn’t provide the return to pop radio that fans had hoped following her esoteric 2013 ARTPOP set. This year’s Super Bowl headliner did land a top 5 hit with ballad “Million Reasons,” but it’s now been six years since she scored a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Born This Way.”

“The Cure” is an swaying, instantly infectious slice of synth-pop that sounds like it’s straight out the ‘80s and feels ready-made for blaring out of car stereos this summer. No word on if “The Cure” is a stand-alone song or part of a new project, but it popped up on Spotify and iTunes on Sunday, so we hope a radio push is imminent.

Hopefully we will finally get Gaga a number one R&B influenced hit since Do What You Want didn't get the recognition it deserved.
