The Fame Joanne 5,985
36 minutes ago, Xtina Aguilera said: Throughout the era, especially recently with the Super Bowl and Million Reasons becoming a hit, people have been calling the Joanne era "the era that keeps on giving." Now that The Cure has been released, I've seen so many people here claiming that Gaga is finally back; they have also been saying that The Cure is better than Joanne as a whole album. I love Joanne, as it's my favorite album of hers besides Born This Way (I also love The Cure), and I thought it was well received amongst fans. Was I wrong? It makes me sad to see so many people trashing Joanne especially since so many were praising it before. But she said "I'm Joanne" to that guy with the cowboy hat while perforing the MR Remix OT: Still love Joanne but also love the TC

OMonster 14,675
Honestly, there is a psychological thing going on here regarding charts and fan/GP acclaim. If Joanne smashed the charts, regardless of it's content, monsters would've hailed it the second coming. If Million Reasons broke the 24hr VEVO record, the negativity wouldn't be there. If Perfect Illusion was a BBH100, it would've had a much better initial reception. (I realise it's now a fan favourite but that took time, a lot of time). I don't know. If a Gaga song/album gets GP acclaim and chart success, it'll always be loved. The Cure was completely destroyed on here when it was first released and performed. Once it picked up momentum from all these positive reviews, it's suddenly her best single in five years. It's how the game goes. Spoiler I love The Cure and Joanne, by the way. They're musical miles apart from each other, I know - but that's what I love. How can one woman go from a country-infused album to a tropical house bop within just a few months? Gaga only. subtext / fantasy

donutellha 13,819
I love the living crap out of it, I just think it's fun to joke around with new material. I'm not going to forget Joanne existed overnight. Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting. wahkeenasitka 1,995
I like Joanne, for the most part, as an album. But I think the choice of singles has been ABYSMAL. Perfect Illusion was so disappointing. Million Reasons I hated from day one and has proven to be continually disappointing. Such a bad choice for so many reasons. 2 hours ago, Givenchy said: and then came John Wayne music video which was the only great music video from this era, followed by some more of her extravagant outfits in random appearances, hence the "era that keeps giving". I agree with this. If Gaga had put out John Wayne as a 2nd single and Diamond Heart or A-Yo as a 3rd Single, I think this era would have felt a lot more successful and less disappointing. Oh well. I think that Gaga made a very good decision finally coming to make & release The Cure. Clearly this is the type of music that the GP can totally latch onto. StrawberryBlond 14,819
I think it's because the fans will go wild for any Gaga song that is suddenly doing well on the charts. This is very natural when your fave goes through a bad patch but suddenly goes through a surprising comeback, even if it's with sub-par material. It's that feeling of: "Yes! My fave is cool and relevant again! That means we might get promo this era, more singles, a bigger tour! Ok, the song's not the best but if it gets them selling again, hey, at least they'll be around more and will get the opportunity to make more music!" This is just how things work, particularly in young fanbases. Every fanbase has lead singles or singles in general that they're simply neutral to or flat-out can't stand. But when it gets embraced by the public, it's natural to want to join in with the love-in because you want your fave to be praised in some way. Seeing Gaga getting praise reminds us of the glory days of 2008-2010 when Gaga was everywhere and selling like hot cakes. We want that moment back again, so we praise anything that the public's making popular even if it's not our personal favourite. And I like The Cure. Sure, it's not what I expected and is nowhere near my favourite Gaga song but the potential for a career resurgence from this is real. With that in place, we might actually get a 5-single era in the future...more promo...more extensive tour dates...just more Gaga to enjoy. I don't want to see her great talent fade away to the point where she just disappears from the mainstream altogether and stops making albums frequently. It's sad when someone is so talented but just doesn't have a clue when it comes to hustling and marketing themselves to ensure they stay around. By being commercial when it matters, we, fans and the world, can continue to enjoy Gaga's talent for years to come.
