How can Russia alone veto it? Do the countries not vote?

Any country on the security council can veto anything (sorry to beat a dead horse, I think other people might have answered your question) but the US doesn't ever really give a f*ck because we do our own sh*t anyway :ladyhaha:

Like when we wanted to invade Iraq for VERY similar reasons we're probably going to invade Syria for, we went to the UN and they said nah, and we responded by waging a decade long non-war War that cost us billions of dollars and thousands of lives :interestinga:

So this won't really stop the US from doing whatever it wants. The rest of our allies don't even really have the tech/resources to do the type of foreign policy we do in the Middle East anyways so it's not a huge deal.

Still though... Russia why do you have to be that guy?

I wasn't entirely sure about China & as for France, they basically lost but were on the side of the victors of the war!  :usrs:

They lost!  I never said they didn't contribute, but you don't have to be liberated if you won!!!  :smh:

They actually lost pretty soon in the war and then even collaborated with Nazi Germany (although Le Pen seems to disagree)

Guys, I'm French and I feel extremely offended by what you're saying. You can't joke about millions of deaths like this. France did technically lost pretty soon in the war but it was for many reasons and yes the government at that time actually collaborated with the Nazis sadly but we had our resistance here. You need to open a history book and learn some facts. France was at that time a big empire and it was liberated (ironically) by its colonies from the north of Africa.

It's not just the US that can defy the UNSC, anybody can and many have. However, if the USA were to act now and invade Syria it would be a clear breach of international law and they would pay the price for it. The situation just isn't severe enough to act without a UN mandate.

You should read around the area of humanitarian intervention, some pretty interesting stuff.

I'm German and I also can admit that we didn't win that war and that our government was horrible at that time. We are not joking about those deaths. There also was a resistance here in Germany. Still, we are not the winners of that war

Russia shouldn't have a problem with an investigation. This is very suspicious.

First of all lets get one things straight, and that is international law is a fallacy. There are little to no disciplinary action ever taken, nor suitable international organization that can even enforce it -- especially when it comes to the US. Basic fundamentals of international relations tell us that states will do whatever they want and international bodies that try to control and punish states is inherently disorganized (chaotic) and weak when it comes to major players.

Technically every country the US bombs right now is both internationally illegal and domestically illegal.

This doesn't really have anything to do with humanitarian intervention, although interesting. The UN deals with humanitarian efforts with peacekeeper troops, which are entirely different from what we (+ the UK, Australia, and Poland) sent into Iraq.

Idk what "UN mandate" you are referring to. The only thing the UN can authorize is a limited number of peacekeeping troops. The UN does not have a standing army. NATO =/= UN.

Still to this day the Iraq war was in clear violation of UN agreements and international law, but not action was ever taken against the US. The point of this ramble is that no, the UN does not get to decide at what time the US can invade a country. The US can invade whatever country they want with even slight provocation and the international community will turn a blind eye.

Spoiler

Much like Donald Trump could walk out onto 5th avenue and shoot somebody and people would still vote for him.

Likely because they knew Assad was going to use the weapons slightly beforehand and didn't say anything. They'd love to cover it up and pretend Assad didn't do it (they love Assad) and they didn't conspire.

I hate to agree with an orange idiot but the world really should do something. Irs a shame we can't because that'd start WW3.
