US missile strikes on a Syrian air base have reportedly killed nine civilians - including four children - as Donald Trump launched the first direct American attack on Bashar Assad's regime.

Britain has described the overnight assault as an "appropriate response" to this week's "barbaric" chemical attack in Syria, while Russia warned the act of "aggression" will damage its relations with America.

Four children are reported to be among nine civilians killed in the "targeted assault" on the air base, from where Mr Trump said a devastating nerve agent strike was launched earlier this week. Six servicemen - none of them Russian - are believed to have also been killed.

Considering we notified the Russians before the attack, and forces were seen leaving the base before the strike, these casulaties may have been pawns for targeted slaughter.

So???? Close to a 100 people were killed in that chemical attack by Assad a couple days ago. Its sad that children died from this but it potentially saved hundreds of lives.

I would like to think that modern politics (on both sides of the spectrum) can become more about discourse and less about death. Regardless of its outcomes it's still sad and horrific that innocent people die because of ****ed up global politics. "So?" is so inappropriate in this situation. If it were you or your loved ones killed in an attack, I sincerely hope no one says "so" in your tragic loss.

Sorry. I was being a little but b-itchy. I apologize. But I agree that its very sadening. Im just annoyed that people are saying its a bad move. It needed to happen.

How did it save lives? The warring factions are still there. There are still children dying every week from bombs and in this civil war. Is it a "better death" for children to burn to death or be trapped under concrete until you die or bleed out? The killing of hundreds, thousands of innocent lives will continue.

And why were children at a military air base at 4am?  That was reported by "Syrian officials" who want the US to look bad so who knows if it's even true at all
