FATCAT 60,982
Nonfarm payrolls grew by just 98,000 in March though the unemployment rate fell to a 10-year low of 4.5 percent, according to a closely watched report Friday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Payrolls had been expected to increase by 180,000 in March, according to economists surveyed by Reuters. "What a number. This makes your jaw drop," said Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at Think Markets. A more encompassing measure of unemployment that includes discouraged workers those at work part-time for economic reasons fell three-tenths to 8.9 percent, the lowest level since December 2007. While the payroll growth number wasn't what Wall Street had expected, market reaction was muted. Stock futures initially dipped but then pared losses, while government bond yields were off their lows as well as the market digested the numbers. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/07/march-nonfarm-payrolls.html This kitten over here (meow)
FATCAT 60,982
I guess Trump's not as good for the economy as he claimed. How revealing. This kitten over here (meow)

MJHolland 12,725
Bad but not super bad, esp considering the relatively calm response from Wall Street investors. This will be worse for his approval rating than it is for the economy, realistically. Monthly job reports are almost always revised and that can be pretty substantial, they're more accurately calculated as quarters anyway.

Its too soon as his budget didnt even tale effect yet New policies can take 2 or 3 years to really make a big difference what happens now has more to do with with past momentum and trends Also as the labor market tightens and reaches full capacity. Big job gains are not realistic The economy right now could only boom either with big productivity gains, or much better job quality but it cant boom from job quantity Ask @Luc i know he will back me in this one. The economy has whats called its maximum productive capacity based on its productivity and labor. If it goes above maximum capacity what u get is overheating and high inflation
Gaga Monster 13,001
Trump's fiscal year doesn't begin until September/October. Still considered Obama. GGD Presidential Elections

Yes they were. Obamas fiscal year doesnt end till September/October according to economists. The economy takes some time to change. He didnt introduce his budget yet. Luc 4,776
There can be a near immediate effect from elections, e.g. increased consumer confidence leading to more consumption which leads to higher employment, increaded business confidence leading to more hiring, etc. But Trump's election didn't really have an effect on the (un)employment level. I don't think this low number can be blamed on Trump either. At least it's bad PR for Trump which is good. Hope it keeps up for a few months (though that's sad for the actual unemployed ). Unemployment is bound to rise at some point either way.
